Set bitrate control to CBR and keyframes to every 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. These are live-ingestion settings, not the separate recommendations for uploaded videos.
1080p bitrate settings by codec and frame rate
“1080p” describes the resolution, but it does not determine the bitrate by itself. Match the setting to the frame rate and the video codec your encoder actually sends to YouTube. YouTube’s live encoder guide lists these minimum and recommended values:

| Resolution and frame rate | Codec | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | H.264 | 5 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | H.264 | 6 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s live-stream recommendations, not a promise that a particular bitrate will look identical for every video. A static image or slow-moving scene may need less data than fast motion, but use the platform’s recommended figure as your starting point rather than assuming all 1080p streams are alike. Confirm the current values in YouTube’s encoder settings guide, since platform guidance can change.

Resolution and frame rate
Set the output to 1920 × 1080 and choose 30 or 60 frames per second to match your source and intended playback. There is no need to send 60 fps if the video was made at 30 fps; a higher output frame rate does not create new motion detail. YouTube’s listed live settings support up to 60 fps.

Codec and bitrate control
YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. Choose the matching bitrate from the table above. Set rate control to constant bitrate (CBR), so the stream maintains a steady target rate instead of varying its output unpredictably.
Keyframes, color, and protocol
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Use RTMPS where your encoder offers it; it is the encrypted version of RTMP and is YouTube’s recommended protocol.
- For SDR, YouTube’s advanced recommendations include Rec. 709 color and 8-bit depth.

Upload bandwidth and connection reliability
Your outgoing connection must sustain the total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom and warns that upload speed may be lower than download speed. Check upload capacity—not just the download figure—and account for other devices or applications using the same connection. A speed test is only a snapshot; a reliable, sustained connection matters for a continuous stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
For example, a 6 Mbps H.264 stream requires more than 6 Mbps of available upload capacity if you follow YouTube’s recommended 20% margin. In practice, leave additional room if the connection is shared or fluctuates; do not set the encoder at the full measured upload speed.

Test the loop and monitor stream health
- Confirm the source and output. Check the video’s resolution and frame rate, then configure the encoder to send the intended 1080p30 or 1080p60 signal with the corresponding codec and bitrate.
- Check the stream key. Enter the key from YouTube Live Control Room in the encoder’s stream settings. Treat it like a password: anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to the channel. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube explains stream settings at Manage live stream settings.
- Run a preflight test. Include audio and motion similar to the planned stream, then check the Live Control Room preview before starting. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing and checking the actual feed rather than relying only on encoder settings.
- Monitor during operation. Watch stream health and audio/video quality. For a 24/7 loop, check after startup and periodically thereafter, especially after changing the source, network, encoder, or stream key. YouTube’s live streaming tips cover testing and encoder setup.
What 24/7 streaming changes—and what it does not
A continuous loop does not have a separate official bitrate profile in YouTube’s reviewed guidance. The same resolution, codec, frame-rate, CBR, keyframe, and bandwidth principles apply as for other live streams. Settings alone cannot guarantee uninterrupted streaming: a computer-based encoder depends on its power, software, and network connection staying available. YouTube’s stream guidance emphasizes connection reliability, testing, and monitoring rather than promising uptime for a particular configuration.
A dedicated hardware encoder is optional for a static loop. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, while also saying expensive equipment is not necessary to get started. Choose hardware only if it solves a specific production or reliability need.

Common problems and fixes
YouTube reports a weak or unstable connection
Check actual upload capacity and leave the recommended 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate. Pause large uploads or other bandwidth-heavy activity, and investigate whether the encoder is on a shared or unstable connection.
The stream looks soft, blocky, or inconsistent
Verify that the encoder is outputting 1920 × 1080 and that its codec and frame rate match the bitrate row you selected. Check that rate control is CBR and that the source itself contains 1080p detail; a 1080p output setting cannot restore detail missing from a lower-resolution source.

The stream does not connect or the preview is blank
Check the selected RTMP/RTMPS service and stream key for errors, then confirm that the key belongs to the intended YouTube stream. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public stream.
The stream drops during a long run
Check the encoder computer’s power and sleep settings, the encoder process, and sustained upload reliability. Review stream health and test again with representative audio and movement. The recommended video settings do not prevent interruptions caused by equipment or network failures.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps playing uploaded videos while your computer is off, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
