To simulcast an Indian-language internet radio station on YouTube, keep the existing radio service running and send its program audio through a live encoder to a YouTube broadcast. The encoder combines the audio with a video signal—often a station graphic—then sends it to YouTube using the broadcast’s ingest address and stream key. You can run the encoder on the home server or another suitable device; YouTube does not require a particular radio automation package or dedicated hardware encoder.

What you need before you start

This setup adds a YouTube destination; it does not replace your station’s existing internet-radio stream. The home server supplies the program audio, while an encoder creates a compatible audio/video feed for YouTube Live. The encoder can run on the server if it has sufficient resources and can remain online, or on a separate computer or hardware encoder.

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
  • A reliable audio output from your radio automation or playback system that the encoder can receive.
  • An encoder that can send YouTube-compatible audio and video over RTMPS.
  • A visual for the stream, such as station artwork or a now-playing card. This is a practical design choice, not a separately stated YouTube requirement.
  • Upload capacity with enough headroom for the selected video profile and a test run.
  • Rights that cover the planned YouTube live use, plus any replay that YouTube may archive.

No Indian-language-specific ingestion protocol or codec is identified in YouTube’s guidance. Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Urdu and other languages use the same documented ingest workflow. Check that your audio chain and graphics render the intended script correctly; YouTube does not automatically translate the broadcast audio or supply captions unless you provide them.

Create the YouTube broadcast and get its stream details

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live. If the channel has not used live streaming before, complete any eligibility or activation steps YouTube presents before the planned broadcast.
  2. Choose to create or schedule a stream in the Live Control Room. Enter a clear title and description in the language you want viewers to see, and set the intended visibility and schedule.
  3. Open the stream settings and copy the ingest URL and stream key for this broadcast. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not publish it, include it in a public screenshot, or reuse an example key from an old guide.
  4. Prefer the RTMPS address shown by YouTube when your encoder supports it. RTMPS is RTMP carried over SSL/TLS; Google’s RTMPS documentation specifies the correct secure ingest endpoint and port 443. Use the address displayed for your stream rather than guessing an endpoint: Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance also describes the Studio workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Route the station audio into an encoder

Choose where encoding runs

Use the home server if the station audio is already available there and the server has enough CPU capacity, network headroom and uptime for encoding as well as radio playback. A separate computer or encoder is another option if you want to keep the station server’s workload lower. The exact routing method depends on your existing radio software and operating system; no single automation stack is required by YouTube’s ingest specifications.

Feed the encoder the program output

Choose the same program output that listeners receive from the station, rather than a microphone input or an unrelated desktop sound source. Keep the radio service’s own output and the YouTube encoder feed distinct enough that you can verify each one. Before connecting, confirm that the encoder receives steady audio and that scheduled transitions, silence periods and station IDs behave as intended.

Set the video and audio output

A radio simulcast often works well with a static station logo or a simple now-playing card. YouTube’s documented ingest path is an audio/video encoder feed, so pair the station audio with a video signal instead of assuming an audio-only internet-radio endpoint is the YouTube input. Use a resolution and frame rate that the connection can sustain; a static visual generally does not call for a high-motion profile.

YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant-bitrate encoding, and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees of a particular listening experience. For video bitrate, select the current YouTube table row for your chosen codec, resolution and frame rate; there is no single bitrate that fits every profile. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

Configure the encoder and test before going live

  1. In the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS output settings, paste the ingest address from the broadcast’s Live Control Room.
  2. Enter that broadcast’s stream key in the encoder’s key field. Keep the key private and verify that it has not been copied with extra spaces or characters.
  3. Select a supported audio codec and stereo format. For stereo, YouTube’s recommended setting is 44.1 kHz at 128 Kbps. Match your actual source to the encoder input so that levels are present without clipping.
  4. Choose a video codec, resolution and frame rate your encoder can sustain. Set constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, keeping the interval at or below four seconds. Choose the corresponding bitrate from YouTube’s current encoder table rather than applying an unrelated preset.
  5. Start the encoder while the YouTube broadcast is still private or unlisted. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm that the visual and audio are correct, and read any stream-health notices before making the broadcast public.
  6. Test representative station output: a language-specific title or graphic, music or speech transitions, scheduled automation, and any silence or station-identification segments expected in normal operation. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
  7. Once the preview and health checks are satisfactory, start the public broadcast in the Live Control Room if required by your encoder workflow. Monitor stream health and messages while live.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API exposes ingest details and health status; its documented health issues include low bitrate, mismatched frame rate and missing audio. See the LiveStreams API reference.

Check music rights before simulcasting

Do not assume that permission to operate an internet-radio service automatically covers a YouTube live stream or an archived replay. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider represents that it holds the rights needed for use of the live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other rights participants, and has met relevant territory requirements. For an Indian-language station, the answer depends on the repertoire, territory, contracts and broadcast model; the sources here do not establish that a particular terrestrial, radio or internet-radio permission extends to YouTube. Confirm the scope of your actual agreements and obtain advice appropriate to your circumstances. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies content, it may replace the stream image, warn you, temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream; a copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also lead to termination. Even licensed music may cause an interruption if the channel has not been added to the relevant content owner’s Content ID allowlist. Contact rights holders about allowlisting before broadcast, and check Studio for restrictions or status notices. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Troubleshoot common stream problems

What you see or hear Likely checks and fixes
YouTube does not receive a signal Check that the encoder is running, the ingest URL matches the current broadcast, the stream key is correct, and the server can reach the ingest service. Prefer the RTMPS address supplied in Studio when supported.
YouTube reports low bitrate or an unstable stream Check the actual outgoing bitrate and available upload capacity. Reduce the selected resolution or frame rate, then select the corresponding bitrate from YouTube’s current table. Avoid treating a bitrate for another codec or profile as a universal target.
The preview has no sound Confirm that the encoder is receiving the station’s program output rather than a silent or incorrect input; check its audio codec, channel configuration and level meters. Verify the output in the Live Control Room preview before going public.
The stream-health status reports a frame-rate mismatch Check that the encoder’s configured frame rate matches the actual output profile. Keep the chosen setting within YouTube’s supported guidance and make a fresh test.
The stream is interrupted after music starts Review Studio’s copyright notices and verify the YouTube rights scope for the track. Ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel where appropriate; a licence by itself does not ensure Content ID will let the live stream continue.
Viewers see the wrong text or artwork Check the source graphic and character rendering in the encoder preview, including the intended Indian-language script. Correct the graphic or its rendering before making the broadcast public.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you would rather not keep a home server or computer responsible for the YouTube feed, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it loops the uploaded video in the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It sends uploaded video rather than going live from a camera, and supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot.

Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery, and StreamNeo team support. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free day.

Keep the home-server setup or use a cloud loop?

Consideration Home-server encoder StreamNeo
What it sends Live encoder output from the station program audio paired with video. Uploaded video, played in a loop or playlist; it does not go live from a camera.
What must remain available The encoder device, audio source and internet connection need to operate for the simulcast. The cloud service runs the loop, so your home computer can be off.
Output profile You select a supported encoder profile and bitrate suitable for your connection. Uploaded quality is preserved up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot.
Recovery Investigate encoder, source, network or YouTube interruptions and reconnect as needed. Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.

For a continuously scheduled radio simulcast whose live audio must track the station automation in real time, the home-server encoder approach fits that job directly. A cloud loop is a different workflow: use it when an uploaded recording or playlist is the program you want to keep on YouTube.
