A “your software is up to date” message means your phone found no update to install for that device at that moment. It does not confirm that every security, account, lost-device or privacy control is switched on. Use this checklist to review the settings that update screen does not cover.
On Android, check each update status separately
Android can show several update details, and menu names vary by manufacturer and Android version. Google’s Android update instructions describe the standard paths and note that they can differ by device.

- Record the installed versions: Open Settings > About phone > Android version. Note the Android version, Android security update date, Google Play system update date and build number. The Android version alone does not tell you the other update dates.
- Check for an available update: Try Settings > System > Software updates and follow the on-screen instructions if an update is offered. Your phone may use different labels or place this option elsewhere.
- Review Android’s security and privacy status: On supported devices, Android 13 and later combine these in a Security and privacy area. Android 12 and earlier may show separate Security and Privacy sections. Review alerts and suggestions shown on your phone; Google describes the available controls in its security and privacy settings guide.
A “no update available” result is not a promise that a phone receives every newly released Android version. Google says, “Older devices can’t always run newer Android versions,” and “Update schedules vary by device, manufacturer, and mobile carrier.” If the security update date looks older than you expected, note the exact model and check its support guidance with the manufacturer or carrier. An old date by itself does not establish that a phone is unsupported or vulnerable.

Review Android’s other built-in protections
Update status is only one part of the picture. Check the controls available on your particular phone; menus and features can vary.

- Online video installation instruction: Easiest Installation - removing dust and aligning it properly before actual installation,enjoy your screen as if it wasn't there.
- Screen lock: Confirm that a PIN, password or pattern is set, and review the available biometric unlock options.
- App protection: Check Play Protect or the phone’s app-security area for warnings or actions to take. Google’s Pixel security settings guide describes app protection alongside other device controls.
- Google Account and device finding: Review any account security warnings, and check that the device-finding feature is configured if you want to locate, secure or erase the phone if it is lost. Google refers to its device-finder service as Find Hub in its current guidance.
- App permissions: In Privacy, review the Privacy dashboard and Permission manager, where available. Check which apps have access to sensitive data and features, including the camera and microphone.
- Lock-screen privacy: Check whether notification contents are visible while the phone is locked, and choose a display option that suits your privacy needs.
These settings help you see and manage access; they do not prove that every app is safe.
On iPhone, check update automation and account safeguards
- Inspect update availability: Open Settings > General > Software Update to see the installed version and whether an update is offered.
- Review automatic updates: On the Software Update screen, tap Automatic Updates and check the download and installation options. Apple says automatic installation takes place overnight while the iPhone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi, and that it notifies you before installation. See Apple’s software update guidance.
- Check the passcode and biometrics: Open Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode and confirm a passcode is set. Apple says Face ID and Touch ID setup require a passcode.
- Review Stolen Device Protection: If your iPhone supports it and the feature suits your needs, find it under Settings > Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode. Apple’s Stolen Device Protection guide says it requires iOS 17.3 or later, a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, Apple Account two-factor authentication, Find My and Location Services. For selected sensitive actions, it adds authentication requirements or a security delay.
- Check Apple Account sign-in alerts: With two-factor authentication enabled, pay attention to notifications about sign-ins on new devices. If you do not recognize the attempt, choose Don’t Allow to block it. Apple notes that the map shown with an alert gives an approximate location based on the IP address or network, not an exact location of the device.
If your phone still will not find an update
Android: verify support for the exact model
Android release timing depends on the device, manufacturer and carrier. Compare your phone’s exact model with the manufacturer’s or carrier’s support information rather than assuming that a particular update cadence applies to every Android phone. The Android version, security update date and Google Play system update date are separate fields, so check all three.

iPhone: check the connection and available space
Apple says some updates may not be available wirelessly, and a VPN or proxy connection may prevent the iPhone from contacting update servers. If an update needs more space, Apple says iOS may temporarily remove apps and reinstall them after installation if you continue. See Apple’s update troubleshooting guidance.

These checks are general settings guidance, not a diagnosis of a particular phone. When a menu is missing or support status remains unclear, use the device maker’s or carrier’s guidance for your exact model.
