What the Basic Unit includes
The developer’s September 23, 2026 post presents the Basic Unit as Yield’s free tier. Its main workspace is divided into four tabs:
- Todo for task lists.
- Schedule for scheduling work.
- Memo for notes.
- Calendar for calendar-oriented organization.
In landscape orientation, an optional side-by-side layout can keep a memo pane visible alongside the active work area. These are the features described by the developer; their operation has not been independently verified. DEV Community post, September 23, 2026

The post describes manual typing, on-device OCR, and voice input that transcribes speech to text. It says all three—including OCR and voice memo transcription—continue to work offline.

A three-level task hierarchy
Tasks are organized as Todo > Group > Item. A group or an individual item can be marked complete. When individual items are used, the parent group is automatically completed once all its items are done.
Repeated-item completion is exact-match only
Marking an item complete can also complete identically named items in other Todos. The author specifies that this uses exact string matching, not fuzzy matching, so differently worded versions are not described as matching.

Links, Android Auto, and sharing
Convenience handoffs
According to the post, phone numbers in Todos or memos can be tapped, recognized app names can launch a linked app, and phrases such as “go to ___” can hand off to Google Maps. A selected Todo can also be searched on the web using the default browser, with SafeSearch forced on.
Android Auto
The Basic Unit is described as supporting handoffs of detected addresses to Google Maps and phone numbers to the standard dialer through Android Auto. The post says an arrival can trigger a voice reminder; it does not automatically mark the task complete.

Android share sheet and .yldtask files
Yield can send text to other apps through Android’s share sheet and receive shared text into its add-task screen. Yield users can also share a .yldtask JSON file, which the post says reconstructs the task without AI restructuring.
What works offline—and what does not
The developer describes local capture and Linkify as continuing to work offline. Network-dependent functions, including Gmail sync and AI structuring, are described as grayed out without a connection. For network requests, the post says Yield retries up to three times when a connection is flaky and shows an intermediate message if a request lasts longer than five seconds.

What is not included in the free tier, and what remains unknown
The post places AI-powered structuring and Gmail sync in paid tiers, and describes Gmail-based AI structuring as part of a planned “Advanced Unit.” Splitting shopping lists by store is mentioned as a future Advanced Unit idea, not a confirmed current feature. The post does not establish whether the Advanced Unit has launched.
No price, launch date, plan limits, privacy policy, or data-retention terms are specified. Nor does the available account establish current app-store availability or supported Android versions. Those details should not be inferred from the feature description.

How to judge whether the Basic Unit fits
The described free tier may be worth considering if you want offline-capable capture and a Todo–Group–Item hierarchy, with calendar and memo areas plus Android handoffs and sharing. Before relying on it, check whether the app is currently available for your device and whether its handling of your data meets your needs; those points are not answered by the developer post. The post also does not provide comparative evidence that Yield is more accurate, faster, or more private than other task managers.
