The U.S. App Store listing shows it as a free download with advertising and requires iOS 17.6 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 17.6 or later on iPad. It suits people who want an image-led forecast and several saved locations; it is less suited to users who need specialist weather tools or rely on one app for every emergency warning.
What Yahoo Weather for iOS offers
Yahoo presents the app as a visual, general-purpose weather service. Its U.S. App Store listing describes current conditions, hourly forecasts, five-day and 10-day outlooks, precipitation, wind, favorite locations, moon information, and severe-weather alerts. Yahoo’s feature overview also describes humidity, UV index, and air-quality information for iOS. What appears can vary by location and app version, and Yahoo’s broader help material may cover both iOS and Android.

Yahoo says its weather service is powered by Weather Underground data. That describes Yahoo’s stated source, not an independent finding that its forecasts outperform other providers. Different apps can show different forecasts because they may use different models, observations, update schedules, and presentation choices.
Availability, price, and compatibility
The U.S. App Store lists the app as Yahoo Weather: Daily Forecasts, developed by Yahoo, and labels it Free. The listing also says it contains advertising. Free to download therefore does not mean ad-free. Availability and listing details can differ by App Store country.

Checked August 16–18, 2026, the U.S. listing required iOS 17.6 or later for iPhone and iPadOS 17.6 or later for iPad. It also lists visionOS 1.3 or later, but the iPhone and iPad requirements are the relevant ones here. Check the listing for your region and device before downloading: an older device may not be able to install the current release. Apple may offer a compatible older version for a previous download in some cases, but that is not guaranteed.
The App Store privacy section says the app may handle location, device identifiers, diagnostics, and user content such as photos or videos; it also says location may be used when the app is not open. These are developer disclosures, not an independent audit, and actual location use depends on permissions. The listing warns that background location may reduce battery life. Yahoo’s documentation discusses account-based location preferences, but the available information does not establish that Yahoo sign-in is mandatory for ordinary use.

How to install the legitimate app
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, or use Yahoo’s Yahoo Weather download page.
- Search for Yahoo Weather: Daily Forecasts. Confirm the developer is Yahoo and check the compatibility details on the listing.
- Tap Get and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, your passcode, or Apple Account credentials as prompted.
- Open Yahoo Weather. Allow location access if you want it to find local weather automatically; you can instead add places manually.
Use the U.S. App Store listing only if that is your storefront. Avoid unofficial IPA files and “old version” download sites.

Use your current location
- In Yahoo Weather, tap the Settings icon, then Current Location.
- If needed, tap Edit Locations and turn on the location option for Current Location.
- If the app still cannot locate you, open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Yahoo Weather and review its permission.
Add a city or ZIP code
- Tap Settings → Edit Locations.
- Tap the + button, enter a city or ZIP code, then tap Search.
- Select the intended result, checking its state, region, or country if several places share the name, and tap Done.
Remove or reorder a saved place
- Open Edit Locations.
- To remove a city, tap its delete control and confirm Delete.
- To change the order, press and hold the movement control beside a city, drag it into position, and tap Done.
Notifications and severe-weather alerts
Yahoo documents twice-daily forecast notifications and emergency alerts for selected conditions. Its examples include hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, heat advisories, and other extreme conditions. Alerts depend on location and active alert conditions; Yahoo specifically says wind warnings are not displayed in the app. See Yahoo’s notification and alert guidance for its current description.
Turn on daily forecast notifications
- In Yahoo Weather, tap Settings, then go to Tools → Settings → Daily Notifications.
- Turn notifications on and select a time and location.
- In iOS, open Settings → Notifications → Yahoo Weather and enable Allow Notifications.
If notifications are missing, check Focus and Scheduled Summary settings as well as the app’s selected location and notification options. Yahoo Weather is a convenience source, not a complete replacement for official warnings. For safety-critical decisions, also use local government alerts, National Weather Service warnings, Wireless Emergency Alerts, or the relevant official service in your area.

Privacy and location choices
Automatic location can make local forecasts more convenient, but the App Store disclosure says location may be used in the background, depending on permissions. If continuous location access is unnecessary, a privacy-conscious starting point is Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Yahoo Weather → While Using the App. You can also deny location access and add cities manually. The trade-off is that automatic current-location behavior may be limited.
The listing also discloses advertising and possible handling of identifiers, diagnostics, and user content. It does not, by itself, establish exactly how ads are targeted or whether location data is sold. Review the App Store privacy information and iOS permissions if those details matter to your choice.

Fix common Yahoo Weather problems
Yahoo’s general iOS troubleshooting guidance recommends updating the app, using an official current iOS release rather than a beta, restarting the app or device, checking the connection, and reinstalling if necessary. Its guidance is at Yahoo’s iOS troubleshooting page.
The app will not install
- Check the iOS or iPadOS requirement in the App Store; the U.S. listing checked in August 2026 required version 17.6 or later.
- Confirm the app is available in your App Store region and that the device has enough free storage.
- If the device cannot run the required operating system, the current version may be unavailable. A compatible older release is not assured.
The app crashes, freezes, or feels slow
- Install any available Yahoo Weather update from the App Store.
- Force-close the app and reopen it, then restart the device if the problem continues.
- Check that the device is on an official iOS release and has a working internet connection.
- If the problem persists, delete and reinstall the app. Confirm you can access any account or saved-location setup you need before deleting it.
The current location is wrong
- Check Location Services and Yahoo Weather’s permission in iOS Settings.
- Confirm Wi-Fi or cellular data is available, then switch Current Location off and back on in the app.
- Add the correct city manually if automatic location remains unreliable.
The forecast does not refresh
- Check your connection, then force-close and reopen the app.
- See whether the problem affects one saved city or all of them.
- Try Yahoo Weather on the web to help distinguish an app-specific issue from a broader service or data issue.
Notifications do not appear
- Check both iOS notification permission and Yahoo Weather’s in-app notification settings.
- Review Focus and Scheduled Summary, and make sure the notification is configured for the intended location.
- Remember that Yahoo does not display every type of severe-weather warning.
Radar or maps do not load
- Update the app and try another network.
- Check whether the map loads for a different saved location.
- If the issue continues, Yahoo’s website can help indicate whether the problem is limited to the app. The available sources do not establish a universal radar outage.
Is Yahoo Weather a good choice?
Yahoo Weather is a reasonable fit if you want a free-to-download, image-led app for everyday checks and multiple saved cities. The trade-offs are advertising, the current operating-system floor, location permissions for automatic local forecasts, and selected rather than comprehensive emergency alerts.
