To use Gmail instead, either add a Google account to Apple Mail or use the Gmail app. You can also add Yahoo as a separate mailbox inside Gmail if you want both addresses there.
First choose what “switching to Gmail” means
These are separate actions, and the right one depends on which app you want to use:

- Remove Yahoo from Apple Mail: Disconnect the Yahoo account from Apple Mail on this iPhone.
- Use Gmail in Apple Mail: Add a Google account through iPhone Settings.
- Use Yahoo in the Gmail app: Add Yahoo as a separate, non-Gmail mailbox in Gmail.
None of these actions changes your Yahoo address, copies messages between providers, or closes the Yahoo account. If you want a new Gmail address or want to move old messages, that is a separate process.

Remove Yahoo from Apple Mail on your iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Mail.
- Tap Mail Accounts and select the Yahoo account.
- Tap Delete Account and confirm Delete from my iPhone if prompted. Depending on the account or settings screen, the option may instead be labeled Sign Out.
This removes the account connection from the iPhone; it does not cancel the Yahoo account. You can continue using the account elsewhere. Apple explains that removing an email account from iPhone does not cancel the account in its iPhone account instructions. Yahoo also documents the iOS Mail account route in its Yahoo Mail setup and removal guidance.

Add Gmail to Apple Mail
If you prefer Apple’s Mail app but want to read your Google email there, add your Google account in iPhone Settings:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Tap Add Account, then choose Google.
- Sign in through the Google prompts.
- Choose which Google data to sync. Make sure Mail is turned on, then save.
The account is added to Apple Mail; this does not move Yahoo messages into Gmail. Google describes adding a Google Account to iPhone apps and choosing what to sync in its iPhone and iPad account instructions. Menu names can vary with iOS versions; older versions may show account settings under a different Settings path.

Add Yahoo to the Gmail app instead
If you want to use the Gmail app while keeping your Yahoo address, add Yahoo as a separate account:

- Tap Add another account, then choose Yahoo if it appears.
- Follow the Yahoo sign-in or authorization prompts.
Gmail supports non-Gmail addresses such as Yahoo, and Google says non-Gmail setup requires IMAP. Google also documents a limit of up to five email addresses in the Gmail app. See Google’s Gmail app instructions for iPhone and iPad. Adding Yahoo does not convert that address into a Gmail address; the accounts remain separate. Gmail’s All inboxes view can show mail from multiple configured accounts.

If Yahoo setup does not work
- Confirm you selected Yahoo or the appropriate non-Gmail account option and completed the provider’s sign-in prompts.
- Check whether the Yahoo account supports IMAP and whether its current sign-in requirements allow the connection.
- Use Yahoo’s current server and security settings rather than guessing server names or switching to an unencrypted connection as a workaround.
