Yahoo does not publish a fixed schedule for Yahoo Mail app updates. App updates and inbox refreshes are different: a new app version comes through the app store, while new-message checks depend on the mail app and its settings. Yahoo specifically documents configurable Fetch intervals for Yahoo accounts in Apple’s Mail app, but that is not a universal refresh schedule for every device.
What “Yahoo Mail update” can mean
The phrase can refer to either installing a newer version of the Yahoo Mail app or checking an inbox for newly arrived messages. These are separate processes: app-store updates change the software, while inbox checks happen within a mail client.

- App version: Yahoo says it often releases updates, but its help pages do not give a fixed cadence or a date for the next release. Yahoo’s Android update guidance and iOS update guidance explain how to install them.
- New messages: How frequently the inbox checks depends on the app and its configuration. Yahoo’s specific guidance on Fetch applies to Yahoo accounts in Apple’s Mail app, not to every Yahoo Mail setup. Yahoo’s iOS Mail setup guidance describes that behavior.
How to update the Yahoo Mail app
Android
- Open Google Play and find the Yahoo app.
- Tap Update if the option appears. Yahoo says that if the app is not listed among updates, it is already up to date.
- To enable automatic updates, open Google Play settings and choose whether apps may update at any time or only over Wi-Fi. The available labels can vary by Play Store version. Yahoo’s Android instructions do not specify a recurring release interval.
iPhone and iPad
- Open the App Store and go to its updates area.
- Find the Yahoo app and tap its update control if one is available. Yahoo says that if the app is not listed for update, you already have the latest version available to you.
- To enable automatic app updates, use the automatic-download update setting in your device settings. The precise menu labels may differ across iOS versions. Yahoo’s iOS instructions provide the platform-specific guidance.
How often Apple Mail checks a Yahoo account
If you access Yahoo through Apple’s built-in Mail app rather than the Yahoo Mail app, Yahoo says the account works with Fetch. Fetch checks for new email at regular intervals, and the interval is selected in the iOS Mail account settings. Yahoo’s guidance does not establish one default timing that applies to every account or device, so check the setting on your iPhone or iPad rather than assuming a particular number of minutes. Yahoo’s Apple Mail setup guidance explains Fetch.

If messages arrive but alerts are absent, Yahoo says notifications need to be enabled both in device settings and in the Yahoo Mail app. Notification permissions do not determine how often the app receives a new version, and they are not the same setting as Fetch. Yahoo’s notification guidance covers the required controls.

What to check when Yahoo Mail is not updating
- Check the account on a computer. If messages are missing there too, the issue may involve receiving mail on the account rather than only the phone app. Yahoo recommends checking desktop access as a first diagnostic step. Yahoo’s mobile email troubleshooting guidance outlines the check.
- If messages appear on the computer, update the Yahoo Mail app. Yahoo warns that an outdated mobile app may fail to connect to its servers, preventing messages from appearing in the app.
- Sign out and sign back in. This can reconnect the Yahoo Mail app to the account.
- If the problem remains, reinstall the app. Yahoo lists uninstalling and reinstalling as a further troubleshooting step.
- For Apple Mail, check the account configuration separately. Verify that Yahoo works on a computer; if the iOS Mail settings are incorrect, Yahoo recommends removing and adding the account again. Yahoo’s Apple Mail troubleshooting guidance addresses this case.
- If mail arrives but alerts do not, check notification permissions. Confirm notifications are allowed in both the device settings and the Yahoo Mail app. Yahoo’s notification guidance explains the two controls.
