For a music-focused YouTube stream in XSplit Broadcaster, set the YouTube output’s audio encoding options, route only the intended music sources into the stream, and check the complete mix in YouTube’s preview before going live. “Audio-only” can mean a stream with no camera footage; the available XSplit documentation does not establish whether YouTube currently accepts a live ingest with no video signal at all. If you mean no camera, use a suitable visual scene rather than assuming a video-free ingest will work.
Set up XSplit’s YouTube output
- Confirm YouTube Live is available for the channel. Follow the current eligibility and enablement flow shown in YouTube Studio. XSplit’s YouTube Live guide, updated in 2025, describes channel verification and no live restriction in the preceding 90 days as prerequisites and says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Treat that as dated guidance, not a guarantee of today’s policy or timing; check YouTube Studio for your channel’s current status. XSplit’s YouTube Live guide
- Configure the YouTube Live output. In Broadcaster, use the Broadcast menu to select or configure the YouTube output. XSplit’s guide covers channel authorization and broadcast details such as title, description, category, privacy, and latency. Review those fields before starting the broadcast. See XSplit’s setup instructions
- Open the output’s properties and inspect Audio Encoding. Choose from the audio codec, bitrate, and format options actually shown for that output. The available controls can be limited by the selected service; don’t assume every codec or format is selectable. XSplit Output Plugin Properties
- Build a visual scene if you are not using a camera. Add a suitable still image, title card, or other appropriate visual to the program scene. A music-focused broadcast without camera footage is not the same as sending no video signal. The reviewed XSplit documents do not confirm that YouTube accepts the latter, so do not rely on a blank video ingest without verifying current platform requirements.
Choose the audio settings without confusing them with video settings
Audio codec, bitrate, and format
The YouTube output’s Audio Encoding section is where XSplit exposes audio codec, bitrate, and format controls. Set them according to the choices available in your installed version and selected output. The reviewed documentation does not establish a universal YouTube audio bitrate for this exact use, so there is no evidence-based single number to prescribe here. Do not mistake the audio bitrate in this section for the video bitrate. XSplit’s general output guidance says to follow the selected platform’s recommended bitrate and account for resolution, frame rate, and available upload speed. It also notes that most streaming platforms require CBR when using x264. Check YouTube’s current recommendations for your chosen video mode and ensure your connection can sustain the total stream bitrate; this does not establish a particular audio bitrate for every output. Inspect the audio routing for every source, not just the music player. XSplit’s documented routing flow says sources default to System Sound; changing a source’s audio output to Stream Only routes it directly to the recording or stream. As XSplit Support puts it, “By setting a source’s audio output to Stream Only, their sound will be routed directly to the recording or stream.” XSplit Support: Multitracking Your Audio

- Use Stream Only when you want a source routed directly to the stream or recording, and verify the resulting mix rather than assuming the routing is correct.
- Listen for unrelated notifications, application sounds, or duplicate audio before publishing.
The exact mixer can differ by Broadcaster version. XSplit’s May 2026 release notes for Broadcaster 4.6.2605.2109 say Presentation Sources became the default Audio Mode and Default Speaker and Default Microphones are added by default to the Audio Mixer. If the controls in your installation do not match older instructions, check the version and inspect the current mixer and source properties. XSplit Broadcaster 4.6 release notes
Check the stream before you publish
- Set the broadcast’s title, description, category, privacy, and latency in the YouTube output setup.
- Start with a private or unlisted broadcast when practical, and inspect the YouTube preview and sound before making it public. This is a prudent check, not a claim about a mandatory YouTube rule.
- Confirm that the intended music is audible and that unwanted computer or microphone audio is absent.
- If your plan is to show no camera, confirm that the visual scene is present and appropriate. A music-focused scene with a still or low-motion visual avoids treating an unverified no-video ingest as a supported workflow.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for music streams
Before streaming, make sure you have the rights needed for the music and visuals you use, including permission for public live streaming where required. A track being available to play on your device does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast it on YouTube. Review YouTube’s current copyright and channel rules, and keep records of permissions or licenses relevant to your program. Do not assume that changing audio settings makes copyrighted material permissible.

Troubleshoot common audio-only setup problems
- The stream is silent: Recheck the selected YouTube output’s Audio Encoding options, the music source’s audio output routing, and the YouTube preview. Confirm that the source is active and that the route sends it to the stream.
- Desktop sounds leak into the broadcast: Inspect sources using System Sound and any default speaker or microphone sources in the mixer. Change routing deliberately and listen to the full output before publishing.
- Audio choices are missing or locked: XSplit says service-specific restrictions can limit the options. Check the properties for the selected YouTube output rather than relying on a setting shown for another service.
- The stream struggles despite acceptable audio settings: Review the platform’s current bitrate guidance for the selected video mode, the x264 CBR guidance where applicable, and your actual upload capacity. Audio bitrate and video bitrate are separate controls.
- YouTube Live is not enabled: Follow the current YouTube Studio eligibility flow. XSplit’s 2025 guide says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, but confirm the present status and any requirements in your account.
- You expect a true audio-only ingest: The reviewed XSplit documentation does not settle whether YouTube currently accepts a live signal with no video. Use a visual scene for a music-focused stream unless you have verified the current requirement for your exact setup.
