Yes, you can discuss XRP on Twitch or YouTube, but a paid, sponsored, or commission-based promotion raises separate platform-disclosure and legal questions. Twitch and YouTube require disclosures for qualifying branded content. For creators reaching UK consumers, FCA financial-promotion rules may also apply to social posts, regardless of where the promoter or crypto business is based. The rules depend on what you say, how you say it, the value you receive, and where your audience is—not simply on whether you mention XRP.
Start by identifying the content and audience
“Promoting XRP” can mean very different things: an unsponsored discussion of XRP, a paid exchange sponsorship, an affiliate link that earns commission, or a product placement for a wallet. Do not treat those formats as interchangeable. A creator can have a platform disclosure duty, a legal duty under the rules where viewers are located, both, or neither, depending on the facts.
The strongest regulatory guidance discussed here is UK-specific. Twitch and YouTube also have their own branded-content policies, which apply alongside relevant local law. This is general information, not a determination that any particular XRP post is a financial promotion or is lawful in a particular country. Rules and platform policies can change, so check the current requirements for your audience and promotion before publishing.
When UK financial-promotion rules may matter
The FCA says the UK regime applies to firms marketing cryptoassets to UK consumers even when the firm is based overseas. Its guidance covers a broad range of communications, including social posts and online advertising. A communication that falls within the financial-promotion restriction must use one of the FCA’s four lawful routes; otherwise, it may breach section 21 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. The FCA’s regime for UK consumer-facing crypto promotions began on October 8, 2023.

That does not mean every conversation about XRP is automatically a financial promotion. Whether a communication is in scope depends on its content and context. The FCA says its rules are technology-neutral and apply on social-media platforms; it also warns that unauthorized influencers and affiliate marketers who promote regulated financial products or services without appropriate approval may commit a criminal offence. If your content invites UK viewers to acquire or use a cryptoasset or service, or includes a commercial incentive, do not assume that a casual tone or an overseas sponsor puts it outside the rules.
What an in-scope promotion needs to do
- Be fair, clear, and not misleading, with enough balance for viewers to understand the risks.
- Include the required risk warning and follow the applicable rules for the consumer journey, including any required positive frictions. A general disclaimer should not be assumed to replace these requirements.
- Disclose relevant commercial relationships, such as payment or commission, where applicable.
The FCA warns that cryptoassets remain high risk and consumers should be prepared to lose all their money. That warning is not a substitute for checking the specific requirements that apply to a promotion.

Twitch and YouTube disclosures are separate from legal compliance
Both platforms provide a way to identify qualifying branded content, but the disclosure action happens in a different place on each platform. Using the tool does not by itself establish that a promotion complies with local law.

On Twitch: decide whether the stream is branded content
Twitch’s definition covers more than a spoken endorsement. Its examples include sponsored gameplay, paid unboxings, channel sponsorships, brand panels, and logos overlaid on a stream. If you receive value for featuring an XRP-related product or service, assess whether the stream qualifies and use the Creator Dashboard disclosure tool when required.
Twitch’s prohibited list names specific financial-product and service categories, including initial coin offerings. It does not establish that every cryptoasset, exchange, wallet, or XRP-related sponsorship is treated identically. Do not infer either blanket permission or a blanket ban from the list: check the current policy and confirm that the specific promoted service is permitted.

Twitch notes that an affiliate link shared in response to a community question is not necessarily branded content under its tool criteria. That is not a blanket legal exemption: an affiliate commission is a commercial relationship that may need disclosure under applicable law, including relevant FCA guidance for UK crypto promotions.
On YouTube: declare paid promotion in Studio
When your video contains qualifying branded content, declare it in YouTube Studio so the paid-promotion label appears. YouTube says creators remain responsible for clear and prominent disclosure. Explain the relationship in the video and, where appropriate, in its description as well; do not rely on the platform label as the only information viewers receive about your incentive.

YouTube permits paid placements and endorsements when platform policy and applicable legal obligations are met. It separately restricts embedding third-party sponsor advertisements in formats where YouTube offers a comparable ad format, including certain pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll placements. A sponsorship mention is not automatically the same thing as inserting a competing ad format, so check the relevant terms for how the integration is presented.
Make payment, commission, and free products understandable
Before you publish, identify every benefit connected to the content: a flat sponsorship payment, commission on sign-ups or trades, a free product, or another service or benefit. Describe the relationship plainly where viewers can notice it. For example, say that a link earns you commission if that is true, or that a segment is sponsored if a brand paid for it. These examples help explain the relationship; they are not a legal safe harbor or a replacement for the platform’s required control.
- Do not call a link “just a resource” if it earns you commission.
- Do not assume a disclosure in a profile, an old stream, or a long description is clear for the particular video or stream where the promotion appears.
- Keep the platform declaration and your spoken or on-screen explanation consistent with the actual arrangement.
- If viewers are in the UK, assess the FCA rules as well as Twitch or YouTube’s requirements; a platform label alone does not resolve the legal question.
Discussing wallets or services is not the same as endorsing one
A hardware wallet can be discussed as a physical product category, but explaining what such a product is does not establish that a particular model is suitable, secure in every circumstance, or free of custody risk. Avoid turning a general explanation into an unsupported product recommendation.

Google treats crypto hardware wallets as a restricted advertising category in specified markets and requires certification and local compliance in those markets. That is an advertising-policy point, not proof that a particular wallet is available or approved everywhere. The FCA’s policy material also discusses hardware wallets; neither point supports claiming that a device removes every risk.

A pre-publication check for an XRP promotion
- Describe the content accurately. Is it ordinary commentary, a paid endorsement, a free-product feature, an affiliate link, or another value-for-promotion arrangement?
- Map the audience. Identify whether you are marketing to UK consumers or viewers in other jurisdictions with their own rules. The UK guidance should not be treated as a worldwide legal rule.
- Check the platform category and tool. For Twitch, review whether the service is permitted and whether the branded-content tool is required. For YouTube, make the Studio declaration for qualifying branded content and check the rules for sponsor-ad formats.
- Review the claims and presentation. Make claims supportable and balanced. For a UK-facing financial promotion, check the applicable risk warning, required journey rules, and lawful communication route rather than relying on a generic disclaimer.
- Disclose the incentive clearly. Tell viewers about payment, commission, free products, or other relevant commercial relationships in a way that is prominent for the specific stream or video.
- Keep the records aligned. Retain the sponsor terms, the claims you agreed to make, and the disclosures used, so you can verify that the published content matches the arrangement.
