Choose XREAL AURA if optical-see-through glasses and Android XR are the draw; consider Meta VR Glasses if you want Meta Horizon OS, eye tracking and a higher published per-eye resolution. Both are announced glasses systems that rely on a separate compute puck, and neither has established real-world comfort or performance in a controlled comparison. The right choice depends on the experience you want—and whether you are willing to wait for reviews and final product details.
What is the main difference between XREAL AURA and Meta VR Glasses?
The biggest distinction is the way each product presents and controls its experience. XREAL describes AURA as an optical-see-through XR system running Android XR, with Gemini support. Meta’s glasses run Meta Horizon OS and make eye and hand tracking their primary input. The products share a glasses-and-puck layout, but that does not make their software, tracking or viewing experience interchangeable.

Both are announced products, not confirmed shipping devices in the information available as of October 7, 2026. XREAL’s product information gives AURA an expected fall 2026 launch window; Meta announced spring 2027 sales. Actual availability and final configurations may change.

| Feature | XREAL AURA | Meta VR Glasses |
|---|---|---|
| Display and optics | Sony Micro-OLED; 1,920 × 1,200 pixels per eye; up to 120 Hz; X Prism optics; 70° field of view (XREAL, 2026) | Micro-OLED; 2,412 × 2,288 pixels per eye; 120 Hz; 70° horizontal and 66° vertical field of view; Meta also lists 37 pixels per degree (Meta Horizon OS Developers, 2026) |
| Tracking | Two world-facing tracking cameras, 6DoF spatial anchoring and hand tracking (XREAL, 2026) | Head, hand and eye tracking. Meta says camera-based face tracking is not available to apps (Meta Horizon OS Developers, 2026) |
| Input | Hands, voice and a touchpad on the puck; Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and game controllers are supported (XREAL, 2026) | Eyes and hands by default; Touch Plus controllers are supported and sold separately (Meta Horizon OS Developers, 2026) |
| Operating system and ecosystem | Android XR with Gemini support; XREAL has announced Android app and XR ecosystem support (XREAL, 2026) | Meta Horizon OS, with Meta-announced media, games, workplace and calling experiences (Meta, September 23, 2026) |
| Compute puck and connectivity | XREAL lists 12GB memory with 256GB storage or 16GB with 512GB; 4,455mAh, 34.84Wh battery; USB-C charging/DP-in; Wi-Fi 6/6E; Bluetooth 5.3 (XREAL, 2026) | Meta lists Snapdragon XR2 Gen 3, 12GB memory, USB-C on the puck, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 (Meta Horizon OS Developers, 2026) |
| Fit and vision | XREAL lists medium fit for 60–66mm IPD and large for 66–72mm, electrochromic dimming and insertable prescription lenses (XREAL, 2026) | Meta lists S/M and M/L sizes and manual per-eye IPD adjustment from 56–70mm (Meta Horizon OS Developers, 2026) |
Meta publishes higher per-eye pixel dimensions, but resolution alone cannot establish which headset will look sharper or better. Optics, fit, rendered content and other factors affect perceived image quality; no comparable independent image testing is established here. Likewise, the shared 70° figure is not enough to conclude that the two devices feel equally immersive: Meta specifies that figure as horizontal, while XREAL lists a 70° field of view without the same horizontal label.
What will wearing and carrying each system involve?
Neither is simply a pair of passive glasses: each depends on a separate compute puck. XREAL describes AURA as lightweight glasses paired with a dedicated puck; Meta describes glasses tethered to its puck by an optical cable, with the puck handling compute, battery and storage. Account for the connected unit and cable when judging portability, rather than comparing frame weight alone.

- YOUR PRIVATE 147” BIG SCREEN, ANYWHERE — Plug the a01+ into your phone, tablet, handheld, or laptop and a giant 147” screen appears in front of you—for movies, gaming, or getting work done on the couch, on a flight, or in bed. A true portable display you wear, in a soda-can-sized 210g case that drops in your pocket.
- ALWAYS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU — The screen follows your view with smooth, stabilized tracking and stays centered as you look around—nothing to anchor or set up, and no drift to reset. Press play and your big screen is simply there.
- 62G — LIGHT ENOUGH TO FORGET — At just 62g, with three nose-pad sizes and flexible temples, the a01+ stays comfortable through a long movie or flight, even lying down.
- LOOKS LIKE SUNGLASSES, NOT A GADGET — A slim, sunglasses-style frame with a signature semi-transparent chassis and neon logo—light and low-profile enough to actually wear out.
- WORKS WITH YOUR USB-C GEAR — No Battery to Charge — Connects and powers over a single USB-C DisplayPort cable: iPhone 15/16/17, iPad, DP-capable Android phones, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Mac and PC. Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and older (Lightning) iPhones need an adapter. For long phone sessions, add the XREAL Hub to charge and watch at once.
XREAL lists AURA’s optical-see-through frames at less than 95g. Meta describes its glasses as about 100g and lists the puck separately. Those figures do not establish a like-for-like total-system weight comparison. AURA’s published fit options are based on IPD (interpupillary distance); Meta lists its own sizes and adjustment range in the table. Prescription inserts and individual fit should be confirmed with the manufacturers before buying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBattery information is also not directly comparable: XREAL lists the puck’s capacity but no comparable runtime in the cited specifications. Meta claims up to about three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a verified side-by-side result or a guarantee for every use.

Which software and controls suit you better?
Choose AURA’s approach if Android XR and optical see-through matter most
AURA’s published combination is Android XR, Gemini, hand and voice input, and a puck touchpad. XREAL also lists support for Bluetooth keyboards, mice and game controllers. That may suit someone seeking an Android XR experience in glasses form, but the announced platform and app ecosystem should not be treated as a fixed launch catalog.
Choose Meta’s approach if you prefer eye-and-hand interaction or optional controllers
Meta describes its glasses as “controllerless by default,” using eyes and hands as primary input. Touch Plus controllers are an optional supported accessory, sold separately—not a stated requirement. Meta announced more than 75 hand-gesture-only games at launch and over 100 immersive live sports events each year after launch; both are future offering claims from Meta, not independently audited availability guarantees.

How do price and launch timing compare?
| Product | Announced timing | Announced price information |
|---|---|---|
| XREAL AURA | Expected fall 2026, according to XREAL’s current product information | XREAL says the base model will not exceed US$1,500 before applicable taxes. Final price and configuration remain pending (XREAL, 2026). |
| Meta VR Glasses | Sales targeted for spring 2027 (Meta, September 23, 2026) | Meta announced a sale price of $1,299.99 USD (Meta, September 23, 2026). |
Meta’s announced price is below AURA’s stated base-model ceiling, but that is not a final like-for-like price comparison: XREAL has not announced AURA’s final price or configurations. Do not assume that an advertised price includes every storage option, controller or prescription accessory unless the final listing says so.

Which one should you choose?
- Consider XREAL AURA if optical-see-through glasses, Android XR/Gemini and the earlier announced launch window fit your priorities—and you can wait for a final price and independent reviews. This is a feature-based provisional choice, not a tested endorsement.
- Consider Meta VR Glasses if Meta Horizon OS, eye-and-hand interaction, the higher published per-eye pixel dimensions and Meta’s announced price fit your priorities, and you are prepared to wait for its spring 2027 target. Its content and battery figures remain manufacturer announcements.
- Wait for independent reviews if comfort, actual clarity, battery endurance, latency, prescription fit or price certainty will decide the purchase. The published announcements do not settle those questions through a controlled comparison.
Before committing, compare the final device configuration, the total system you will carry, local availability and any prescription or controller costs. Until both products are available and tested under comparable conditions, claims about which is more comfortable, lasts longer or performs better would go beyond the published evidence.
