The Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is a capable budget Android tablet for streaming, browsing, social media and ordinary schoolwork—not a device that handles literally anything. Its 120Hz screen and metal body are appealing at the entry level, but the reviewed 4GB/64GB model has sluggish performance under heavier use, a modest display and slow charging. Price is also time-sensitive: Notebookcheck’s September 30, 2026 article reported an Amazon price below $160, while its September 26 review recorded different prices by storage configuration.
What is the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 9.7?
It is a compact, entry-level Android tablet with a 9.7-inch display. This model should not be confused with the older Redmi Pad, which has a 10.61-inch screen and a different processor. Notebookcheck reviewed the Wi-Fi model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage; LTE and 128GB configurations are also mentioned, though availability varies by region.

Notebookcheck’s September 26, 2026 review listed an approximate launch MSRP of $190 and Amazon price snapshots of $159.99 for the 64GB/4GB version and $184.99 for the 128GB/4GB version. Its September 30 article said the tablet was available for less than $160 on Amazon. These are dated snapshots, not guaranteed current prices, so check the listing for your region and the exact configuration before buying.
Specifications and everyday suitability
| Specification | Reviewed Wi-Fi model |

| Processor | Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 |

For video, web browsing, social apps and routine school or college tasks, this hardware is a reasonable match. The 120Hz refresh rate can make scrolling and interaction feel smoother than on a conventional 60Hz screen. But the 4GB of RAM and processor are limiting when many demanding apps are open or when a game pushes graphics performance. Notebookcheck describes heavier-use performance as sluggish, so people who regularly multitask or play graphics-intensive games should consider a higher tier rather than treating this as a laptop replacement.

Screen, speakers and build: where the trade-offs show
Display
The 2048 × 1280 LCD supports refresh rates up to 120Hz. Notebookcheck measured average brightness at about 416 cd/m² in its review testing and found no PWM dimming. The reviewer nevertheless identifies brightness and sharpness as compromises, so the high refresh rate should not be mistaken for a premium display. Consider your usual lighting and viewing distance, especially if you expect to use it outdoors.
Audio and construction
The tablet has a metal unibody, a useful build-quality feature for an inexpensive device. Notebookcheck found the speakers could sound distorted. If clear, full audio matters, plan to use headphones or another audio option rather than assuming the built-in speakers will satisfy every use.

Battery, charging and storage
The reviewed tablet has a 7600mAh battery. Notebookcheck’s test took approximately 1.5 hours to recharge fully, with charging up to 18W; this is the reviewer’s test result, not a promise for every charger or usage condition. The package listing includes a USB cable but no fast charger, so a suitable power adapter may be an additional purchase.
The 64GB base configuration can fill quickly with downloaded video, games and school files. A microSD card is supported up to 2TB, according to Notebookcheck, making expansion a practical option for media and documents. A memory card does not replace RAM or make demanding apps run faster.

Wi-Fi or LTE, and what the ports allow
The Wi-Fi model reviewed by Notebookcheck does not have satellite positioning. The LTE model is reported to include A-GPS, which can matter for navigation or location-dependent use away from Wi-Fi. Confirm the exact regional version before purchase rather than assuming cellular and positioning features are identical across listings.
The USB 2.0 port does not support wired video output. If connecting the tablet to an external display by cable is part of your plan, this model does not meet that requirement.

Software support and stylus limitations
Notebookcheck reports that its test unit ran Android 16 with HyperOS 3. The review says Xiaomi lists security support through April 2033, with quarterly patches planned, and expected Android upgrades up to version 21. Those are the policy details reported in the 2026 review; update schedules can change, and delivery may vary by region.
The optional Redmi Stylus For Pad is a basic input accessory rather than a full-featured drawing pen. Notebookcheck says it lacks a digitizer, palm rejection and pressure sensitivity. That makes it a poor choice for buyers who need reliable handwriting workflows or pressure-sensitive illustration. The tablet’s package listing also does not include a protective case.
