The 17 Ultra is therefore the supported Xiaomi reference point. For camera hardware, the clearest alternatives to compare are OPPO Find X9 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and iPhone 18 Pro—but their specifications do not, by themselves, establish which takes the best photos.
What is the Xiaomi 18 Ultra status?
The Xiaomi and Leica materials available for this comparison describe the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, launched in mainland China in December 2025 and overseas in February 2026. They do not establish that Xiaomi has announced or canceled a Xiaomi 18 Ultra. Treat “Xiaomi 18 Ultra alternatives” as a search for competing camera-focused flagships, and use the 17 Ultra as the documented Xiaomi baseline rather than relying on unverified specifications for a newer model. Xiaomi’s product information and its investor materials are the relevant official references.

Which phones are the strongest camera-hardware alternatives?
These phones emphasize different camera designs. The figures below come from the cited manufacturers or editorial comparison; they are not results from a single standardized test.
| Phone | Documented camera hardware | Useful comparison angle |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 17 Ultra | 1-inch main sensor; 200MP telephoto with mechanical optical zoom across 75–100mm. Leica and Xiaomi describe telephoto reach up to 400mm equivalent. Leica and Xiaomi product information | Large main sensor paired with a mechanically variable telephoto range. |
| OPPO Find X9 Ultra | OPPO claims dual 200MP sensors and a 50MP 10x optical telephoto. OPPO announcement | Long optical reach and a dual high-resolution camera system. |
| Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra | TechRadar lists a 200MP wide camera, 50MP ultra-wide, and separate 10MP 3x and 50MP 5x telephoto cameras. TechRadar comparison, October 2, 2026 | Several discrete focal lengths for comparing framing options. |
| iPhone 18 Pro | Apple announces a 48MP main camera with variable aperture; TechRadar lists a 48MP 4x telephoto. Apple announcement, September 9, 2026; TechRadar comparison | Aperture control and a camera workflow worth assessing alongside still-image hardware. |
| Google Pixel 11 Pro | TechRadar identifies it as a 2026 camera-phone entrant, but the sources cited here do not provide enough camera hardware detail for an equal specification comparison. TechRadar comparison, October 2, 2026 | Consider it as a software-processing alternative, but verify its camera specifications from a suitable source before comparing hardware. |
What makes each alternative different?
Xiaomi 17 Ultra: a variable optical telephoto
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s distinguishing feature is not simply its 200MP count: its telephoto camera uses mechanical optical zoom across 75–100mm. Leica and Xiaomi also describe reach up to 400mm equivalent. That gives it a different hardware proposition from a phone relying on separate fixed telephoto cameras, though the specifications alone cannot show which produces better images.

OPPO Find X9 Ultra: long-reach telephoto claims
OPPO presents the Find X9 Ultra around a 50MP 10x optical telephoto and dual 200MP sensors. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent proof of image quality or superiority. If distant subjects are your priority, compare actual results at the focal lengths you use rather than treating “10x” or megapixel count as a verdict.
Galaxy S26 Ultra: multiple discrete telephoto cameras
TechRadar’s October 2, 2026 table lists separate 3x and 5x telephoto cameras alongside the wide and ultra-wide cameras. This makes focal-length coverage a useful comparison point against a mechanically variable zoom system. The details cited here come from TechRadar rather than a Samsung source, and the camera count does not establish performance.

iPhone 18 Pro: variable aperture and creator workflow
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro’s 48MP main camera has variable aperture, describing it as a new form of aperture control for iPhone. That is a vendor characterization, not an independent quality finding. TechRadar lists a 48MP 4x telephoto. For a meaningful comparison, consider video controls and workflow as well as still-camera hardware.
How to choose the best camera-phone alternative for your use
There is no objectively best camera established by these specifications. Compare the things that affect your own photographs and videos, and use matched samples when judging image quality.

Availability and pricing depend on your market
In its October 2026 comparison, TechRadar reported that Xiaomi 17 Ultra and OPPO Find X9 Ultra were not available in the US at that time. That is a dated, region-specific report, not a guarantee of current availability elsewhere. OPPO directs buyers to local OPPO pages for price and availability. Xiaomi’s investor presentation lists starting retail prices of RMB 6,999 and EUR 1,499 in the contexts it specifies; those figures are not universal current street prices. Check the manufacturer or authorized local seller for your country and date.
