There is no universal Xfinity WiFi password. Your gateway’s network name and WiFi password are usually printed on its label if they have not been changed. The password for the gateway Admin Tool at http://10.0.0.1 is a separate credential, so first identify whether you are trying to connect a device to WiFi or manage the gateway.
Which Xfinity password do you need?
| What you are doing | Credential to use | Where to find or set it |
|---|---|---|
| Connecting a phone, computer, TV, or other device to WiFi | The WiFi network password (also called the network key) | Check the gateway’s side or bottom label if the defaults have not been changed, or view the WiFi details in the Xfinity app. Xfinity’s WiFi name and password instructions |
| Signing in to the gateway Admin Tool | Username admin and the applicable Admin Tool password |
The password may be the one on the gateway label in applicable setups, or one established when Admin Tool access was enabled or its login was changed. Xfinity’s Admin Tool instructions and access setup instructions |
These passwords are not automatically interchangeable. Do not assume that the Admin Tool password is the old universal default sometimes repeated online as “password”; Xfinity’s instructions describe different credential situations depending on the gateway and how access was set up.

Find your current WiFi name and password
Check the gateway label
If you have not changed the network credentials, look for the WiFi name (SSID) and password on the label on the side or bottom of the gateway. Xfinity says most gateways prompt users to change the defaults during installation. If yours still uses the label credentials, changing them is a sensible security step.

View them in the Xfinity app
When available for your account and gateway configuration, use the Xfinity app to view the WiFi details. If you have already changed the password and cannot recall it, checking the app is preferable to resetting the gateway.

Change the WiFi network name or password
The available route depends on the gateway model and network setup. Xfinity documents the Admin Tool for rented XB2 and XB3 gateways. XB6 and newer gateways, WiFi Extenders, and WiFi Intelligence configurations may require using the Xfinity app; Xfinity says the Admin Tool may not manage the network name or password in those configurations. Check the current app options and your gateway model before following instructions written for a different setup.
- Use the app where required or available. Open the Xfinity app and use its WiFi details and edit flow to update the network name or password, if those controls are available for your setup. See Xfinity’s current WiFi instructions.
- For supported rented XB2 or XB3 gateways, use the Admin Tool if appropriate. Connect to your home network and go to
http://10.0.0.1. Sign in with usernameadminand the applicable Admin Tool password, then use the WiFi settings to make the change. See Xfinity’s Admin Tool procedure. - Reconnect your devices. After changing the network name or password, update the saved WiFi details on each phone, computer, TV, and connected device that uses the network.
Sign in to or enable Admin Tool access
To reach the Admin Tool, connect your device to the home network and open http://10.0.0.1. The username Xfinity identifies is admin. The password depends on the setup: in applicable cases it is on the gateway label; otherwise, use the password created when access was enabled or the login was changed. If you cannot sign in, consult Xfinity’s Admin Tool access instructions for your gateway rather than trying a supposed universal password.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
On supported newer gateways, the Xfinity app can be used to enable Admin Tool access and set a password. Xfinity recommends turning access off when you are finished. Availability depends on gateway generation, so the option may not appear on every device or account.
Choose a WiFi security mode that fits your devices
Xfinity describes WPA2, WPA3-Personal, and WPA3-Personal-Transition as available WiFi security modes. The app is its documented route for changing security mode; the Admin Tool is also described for supported configurations. Review device compatibility before selecting WPA3-only, especially if older or smart-home devices need to connect.

- Compatible with major cable internet providers including Xfinity and Cox. NOT compatible with Verizon, Spectrum, AT&T, CenturyLink, DSL providers, DirecTV, DISH and any bundled voice service. Best for cable provider plans up to 800Mbps.
| Mode | What it means for your network | Compatibility consideration |
|---|---|---|
| WPA2 | Xfinity describes WPA2 using AES rather than TKIP. | May be needed for devices that do not support WPA3. |
| WPA3-Personal | Xfinity describes this mode as using Simultaneous Authentication of Equals (SAE), with stronger resistance to password guessing and offline dictionary attacks, as well as forward secrecy. | Requires compatible devices. These are Xfinity’s explanations, not independent comparative test results. |
| WPA3-Personal-Transition | Provides a compatibility path in which capable devices can use WPA3 while legacy devices use WPA2. | Useful to consider when you have a mix of newer and older clients. |
| Open | Has no security settings, so anyone within range can connect without a password. | Xfinity does not recommend this mode. |
For details and the current settings route, see Xfinity’s WiFi security-mode guidance.
Recover access before resetting the gateway
If you have forgotten a changed WiFi password, first check the Xfinity app or other available account recovery options. If the problem is Admin Tool access, use Xfinity’s access guidance for your gateway. A factory reset is a last resort because it restores factory settings and disconnects WiFi devices.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²

- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
- Locate the recessed reset button on the gateway.
- Use a pen or an unfolded paperclip to press the button, following Xfinity’s reset instructions for your gateway. No special reset tool is necessary.
- After the gateway resets, use the credentials on its label where applicable, then set the credentials you want to use.
- Reconnect devices using the restored or newly configured WiFi details.
See Xfinity’s Admin Tool and reset guidance and WiFi credential instructions for details relevant to your setup.
Optional: connect with WPS
For supported devices, WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) can connect without manually entering the network name and key. Xfinity describes push-button and PIN methods. If WPS is unavailable or does not work, use the network credentials instead; see Xfinity’s WPS instructions.
