Xfinity limits what you can watch away from home because the full channel lineup and On Demand library are available only on your household’s Xfinity network. Away from home, Xfinity Stream offers eligible channels and programs marked “TV Go” or “Available Out of Home.” If you are at home but see an out-of-home message, first check that your device is connected to your own Xfinity Wi-Fi—not an xfinitywifi hotspot—and disconnect any VPN.
Why Xfinity limits viewing away from home
Xfinity distinguishes your household’s in-home network from other Wi-Fi and mobile networks. On the home network, you can stream the channels included with your service. On another network, access depends on which channels and programs Xfinity makes eligible for out-of-home viewing.

Xfinity says more than 250 channels can be livestreamed out of home through the Xfinity Stream app and web portal. That figure describes the service broadly, not a guaranteed lineup for every customer: the channels available to you depend on your TV package and the eligibility of each program. Look for “TV Go” or “Available Out of Home” labels in the app or portal. Xfinity’s network availability guide explains the distinction.

Eligible live channels and On Demand programs
Use the Xfinity Stream app or portal to check what is available on your account. The portal offers a subset of the channel lineup and On Demand programming labeled “Available Out of Home (TV GO).” On Android, selecting a channel that is normally in-home only may redirect you to that network’s TV Go stream if one is available. The exact catalog can vary by service and title eligibility. Xfinity’s TV Go FAQ and portal guidance describe these options.

Completed Cloud DVR recordings
Eligible Cloud DVR recordings can stream over the internet away from home once recording is complete. If the recording is still in progress, wait until it finishes before trying to watch it remotely. Availability depends on the recording and your service. Xfinity’s portal guidance covers remote DVR playback.
Downloads for offline viewing
You can download eligible recordings and On Demand programs in the Xfinity Stream mobile app before a trip and play them without an internet connection. Downloads are subject to service and title eligibility. Xfinity says downloaded programs can be watched offline outside the United States; that is not the same as being able to stream live or On Demand programming internationally. How to watch on a phone, computer, or TV
Xfinity lists the Stream app for iOS and Android and access through supported web browsers. It also documents selected TV platforms and devices, including Xumo, Amazon Fire TV, and casting through supported Chromecast and AirPlay. Some integrations are limited to in-home use, and support varies by exact model and service, so check Xfinity’s current system requirements for your device.

Internet, data, and location requirements
- Live, On Demand, and recorded streams need an active Wi-Fi or cellular internet connection. Mobile carrier charges may apply, and out-of-home streaming can count toward internet data usage. Xfinity’s requirements and app FAQ explain these conditions.
- Downloaded programs do not need internet access during playback, once the download is complete.
- Xfinity says Xfinity TV programs cannot be streamed outside the United States. Download eligible titles in advance if you need offline viewing during international travel. Xfinity’s requirements describe the geographic restriction.
Fix an “Out of Home” message when you are at home
The most common thing to verify first is the network the device is actually using. An xfinitywifi hotspot is not the same as your household’s in-home Xfinity network, even if you are physically at home.
- Check the Wi-Fi name. Connect the device to your household’s own Xfinity Wi-Fi network, not a neighbor’s network, public Wi-Fi, or the xfinitywifi hotspot.
- Disconnect a VPN. Then retry the Stream app or portal; Xfinity’s troubleshooting guidance identifies VPN use as a possible cause of location or network-recognition problems.
- Confirm the connection works. Open another website or app on the same Wi-Fi. If internet access fails, fix the network connection before troubleshooting Stream.
- Try another route. Sign out and back in, then test the Stream portal or another mobile device to see whether the issue is limited to one app or device.
- Check account modem details. Xfinity advises confirming that the modem information associated with the account is accurate.
For Safari portal users on macOS Monterey, Xfinity notes that iCloud Private Relay may interfere by hiding location and internet-service-provider information. Understand simultaneous-stream limits
For X1, Xfinity documents up to five simultaneous streams across account devices, with no more than three off the home network. Limits differ for Instant TV and Xfinity On Campus, so do not assume the X1 allowance applies to every service. Xfinity lists the service-specific rules in its Stream app FAQ and streaming limits guidance.
