Xbox has not confirmed that Project Helix will launch in 2027 or arrive as three devices. What it has confirmed is that it plans to send alpha versions of Helix hardware to developers beginning in 2027—a development milestone, not a retail release date. The company has described a wider hardware portfolio, but no official announcement cited here specifies three Helix products.
What is Project Helix?
Project Helix is the codename for Xbox’s next-generation first-party console project. Xbox says it is designed to play Xbox console and PC games, and that it uses a custom AMD system-on-a-chip co-designed for the next generation of DirectX and FSR. Xbox Vice President of Next Generation Jason Ronald described the aim as delivering “leading performance” while ushering in the next generation of console gaming. Xbox Wire’s March 11, 2026 announcement does not provide retail specifications.

Does the 2027 date mean the next Xbox comes out then?
No. Ronald said Xbox plans to ship alpha versions of the hardware to developers beginning in 2027. These early development units are for game makers; the announcement does not say when consumers will be able to buy a Helix console.

Will Helix launch with three devices?
That count is unconfirmed. Xbox has described a broader next-generation portfolio spanning console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories, and said AMD is co-engineering silicon across a portfolio that includes future first-party consoles and cloud. Those categories describe Xbox’s wider strategy; they do not establish three Helix launch products. Xbox’s June 19, 2025 announcement about its AMD collaboration does not name a three-device Helix lineup.
A September 2026 MeriStation report attributes a remark about a “family of devices for Helix” to Xbox head Asha Sharma, but the report gives no number. A family could include more than one product, but neither that report nor the official announcements establish exactly three devices or what form they would take.

Xbox’s March 2026 announcement also gives ecosystem figures: more than 1,500 games in the Xbox Play Anywhere catalog, 500 development teams that have shipped games with Xbox Play Anywhere, and more than 5,000 developers around the world currently building for Xbox. These figures provide platform context, not forecasts for Helix devices, sales, or launch timing. Xbox Wire.

What this means if you are deciding whether to wait
There is not enough confirmed information to compare hypothetical Helix models or decide whether one will suit you better than another. Xbox has not announced model names, prices, consumer availability, retail specifications, or a three-device lineup in the cited official material. For now, the reliable takeaway is that Helix is being developed as a console built for Xbox and PC games, with developer alpha hardware planned to begin shipping in 2027. A possible consumer launch in that year remains secondary reporting, not a confirmed date.
