Discord requires a linked Xbox account, and you can’t use Discord Voice and Xbox Party Chat at the same time on the console.
What’s the difference between Xbox Party Chat and Discord Voice?
Xbox Party Chat is the native Xbox option for talking with people in an Xbox party. Discord Voice on Xbox lets you join Discord voice channels and group calls from the console, while other participants can join from Discord on PC or mobile. Xbox Wire announced the feature for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on September 13, 2022, describing it as a way to connect with friends across mobile, Xbox, and PC (Xbox Wire).

Discord Voice is an integrated console feature, not a standalone Xbox app. You link your Discord and Xbox accounts, then access Discord Voice through the console interface or transfer a call from Discord mobile. Current instructions are in Discord’s Discord and Xbox Connection FAQ.

How to join Discord Voice on Xbox
- Link your accounts. Connect your Xbox account to Discord using the current steps in Discord’s connection FAQ.
- Update the console. Discord’s instructions require the Xbox console to be updated.
- Join from the Xbox guide. Open the Xbox guide and select Parties & chats > Discord Voice, then choose the channel or call to join.
- Or transfer from Discord mobile. Open a Discord voice channel, choose Join on Xbox, and transfer the audio through the Xbox app.
Privacy settings can affect voice transfer and communication outside Xbox. If you can’t connect or communicate, consult the FAQ’s troubleshooting guidance rather than relying on a static settings walkthrough.
What you can’t do at the same time
Discord Voice and Xbox Party Chat cannot be active together on the Xbox console. Joining Discord Voice means you can’t remain in an Xbox Party Chat at the same time. That limitation does not mean Xbox game chat and Xbox Party Chat are the same thing: Xbox documents switching between Discord Voice and Xbox game chat, while Discord’s FAQ specifies the incompatibility with Party Chat.

Is Discord Voice better for sound or reliability?
The official materials cited here explain availability, setup, and features; they do not establish that Discord Voice has lower latency, better audio quality, stronger moderation, or more reliable connections than Xbox Party Chat. The sensible choice is the service your group already uses, unless a particular setup issue gives you a reason to switch.
Discord gameplay streaming is a separate feature
Discord also supports sharing Xbox gameplay to a Discord voice channel. Streaming is separate from voice chat, and only the currently played game’s audio and video are streamable; switching apps or closing the game pauses the stream. Discord documents viewing streams at 480p, 720p, 1080p, or 1440p. For streaming from Xbox with Nitro, its FAQ lists up to 1080p, with a maximum of 60 fps on Xbox Series X|S or 30 fps on Xbox One.
