Xbox’s US overview lists four options: Essential, Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass. Its promotional library counts are 50+ games for Essential, 200+ for Premium, 500+ for Ultimate, and 300+ for PC Game Pass. Those are Xbox’s current descriptions, not fixed inventories: Xbox says game titles, counts, features, and availability vary over time, by region, plan, and platform. See the Xbox Game Pass overview and FAQ for current details.

- USE FOR GAMES & CONTENT — Redeem for thousands of digital XBOX games, from backward compatible classics to the latest new releases, plus DLC and in‑game currency.
- GAME PASS READY — Apply your balance toward XBOX Game Pass Ultimate to play new titles on day one* and access a library of hundreds of high‑quality console games.
- PRE‑ORDER & PRE‑INSTALL GAMES — Use your balance to pre‑order and pre‑download upcoming titles so you’re ready to play the moment they launch.
- NO FEES OR EXPIRATION — XBOX Gift Cards never expire and have no service fees, so your balance is ready whenever you are.
Which tier should you choose?
Choose Essential for core console access
Essential suits a console player who wants a game library, online multiplayer for paid games, and in-game benefits, but does not need new releases on day one. Xbox says free-to-play games are available to all Xbox players without a paid multiplayer subscription, so do not pay for Essential solely to play those games online. Check the comparison page for the current feature list and terms.
Choose Premium if you can wait for Xbox-published games
Premium is the middle option for players who value a larger cross-device library and cloud gaming but do not need Xbox-published games at launch. Xbox says those titles join Premium within 12 months of launch. That timing applies to Xbox-published games, not every game released by other publishers.

- NO FEES OR EXPIRATION — XBOX Gift Cards never expire and have no service fees, so your balance is ready whenever you are.
Choose Ultimate for day-one releases and bundled benefits
Ultimate is the fit if you want day-one releases alongside the largest library Xbox lists, cloud play, and included benefits such as EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. It is also one of the plans Xbox lists with online console multiplayer. The bundle is most useful when you expect to use those specific benefits; a larger catalogue alone does not make it better value for every player.

Choose PC Game Pass if you play on Windows
PC Game Pass is the PC-focused choice for Windows players who want day-one titles, a PC library, and EA Play. Xbox’s overview lists 300+ games for it. Cloud gaming is not listed for PC Game Pass in the surfaced Xbox FAQ, so do not choose it on the assumption that it includes cloud play.

How do the plans differ on new releases, cloud play, and multiplayer?
Day-one access
Xbox lists day-one titles for Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Essential does not include new release titles on day one. Premium has a different promise: Xbox-published games join within 12 months of launch. These distinctions do not establish that every third-party release is included or arrives on a particular schedule.
Cloud gaming
The US comparison page lists cloud gaming for Premium and Ultimate, with surfaced monthly allowances of 10 hours for Premium and 15 hours for Ultimate. Xbox says limits vary by plan; confirm the live allowance before subscribing. Cloud play also depends on a supported device, a supported region, and network conditions. The plan allowance is not a substitute for checking whether your device and location are supported.

Online console multiplayer
Xbox lists online console multiplayer with Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Free-to-play games do not require a paid multiplayer subscription, according to the comparison page. If multiplayer is your only reason to subscribe, consider whether the games you play are free-to-play before choosing a tier.

How to decide whether a higher tier is worth it
- Start with your device. If you play only on Windows, compare PC Game Pass with the other plans’ listed PC access. If you play on console, look first at the console-focused options. For cloud play, check that both your device and region are supported.
- Decide how soon you want new games. If day-one access matters, compare Ultimate and PC Game Pass. If you can wait for Xbox-published games, Premium’s stated window is within 12 months. Essential does not include new releases on day one.
- Count the features you will use. Consider cloud gaming hours, online console multiplayer, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics only if you expect to use them. Benefit availability can vary by tier, market, and date.
- Compare the current price with your own use. Check the live monthly price and promotion terms against the specific games, cloud time, or included services you want. Do not treat a larger advertised library count as better value unless its games fit your interests.
Before you subscribe
- Check the current catalogue rather than assuming a particular title is included.
- Confirm local pricing, plan features, and availability on your regional Xbox page; the prices above are US prices.
- Review automatic renewal and any introductory-offer terms at checkout.
- If you plan to cloud-play on a phone, tablet, or other device, verify that the device is supported. Xbox says supported devices are sold separately; the comparison page does not establish that a particular controller model works with every device.
