1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf Xbox Disc-to-Digital is not working, first check whether the console can read the disc and whether that specific game is eligible. Then separate the digital-license claim from the game installation: having the game’s files on the console does not prove that a digital entitlement was claimed. Xbox says the feature covers most, not all, Xbox One and Xbox Series X game discs, and the qualifying disc must still be in your possession.
Check whether your console can read the disc
Xbox’s Disc-to-Digital process starts by inserting a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X game disc into a supported disc-reading console and launching the game. The feature is not available on Xbox Series S, which plays digital games only and has no disc drive. A digital-only Xbox Series X model likewise cannot accept a physical disc.

Xbox’s announcement describes the feature for Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles and supported discs; it does not establish a workaround involving a different person’s console. See Xbox’s feature announcement and its backward-compatibility information.

Eligibility is not universal. Xbox said on August 26, 2026, that most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based games support Disc-to-Digital, but not every title does. Microsoft’s usage rules say eligibility can depend on technical, licensing, publishing, or other factors, and that the eligible list can change. A disc that the console does not accept for a digital license may therefore be ineligible rather than suffering an installation problem.

Xbox described the rollout as beginning with thousands of titles and adding more over time; that is not an exact eligible-title count or a guarantee that any particular disc qualifies. Xbox’s announcement and Microsoft’s digital-goods usage rules do not provide a per-title eligibility list in the information cited here.
Separate the digital claim from the game installation
The claim flow described by Xbox is to insert a supported disc and launch the game. Installing game data is a separate event: Xbox explains that disc games download to console storage, but conventional play still requires the disc. So if an installed game continues asking for its disc, the files may be present even though no Disc-to-Digital entitlement was successfully claimed.

Do not assume that deleting or reinstalling game data will fix a failed license claim. The available official guidance does not establish reinstalling as a remedy for an ineligible disc or an incomplete claim. Xbox’s explanation of disc-based play is in its storage and backward-compatibility overview.

A claimed digital license is not an unrestricted replacement for owning the disc. Microsoft says the digital license remains conditioned on continued possession of the qualifying disc; it may be revalidated and may be suspended or revoked if you no longer have that disc. The license cannot be transferred separately from the qualifying disc.
