What appeared on modified PS5s
An October 13, 2026 report by Dmitry Krivov at iXBT Games, citing Insider Gaming, describes two separate projects. Overdrive is presented as an alternative store and library for games and add-ons; PSXBOX, also called PSBox in its project documentation, is described as a client for Xbox Cloud Gaming. They serve different purposes: one organizes a game catalog, while the other streams games from Microsoft’s cloud service.

The report lists Battlefield 6, 007: First Light, Forza Horizon 5 and Black Myth: Wukong among titles seen in Overdrive’s catalog. Those are examples reported by the outlet, not independently confirmed listings or evidence that the games are available to download or play through the project. The report does not establish the catalog’s legitimacy, safety, or relationship to the games’ rights holders.
What PSBox claims to do—and what remains uncertain
The PSBox project repository describes the software as an unofficial native Xbox Cloud Gaming client for jailbroken PS5 consoles. Its maintainers say it can browse the cloud catalog and stream at 1080p and 60 frames per second, with DualSense support and interface features. iXBT Games also reports 1080p60 streaming and DualSense controls, while cautioning that the apps’ actual capabilities and reliability have not been verified. These are reported and developer-described capabilities, not results from an independent test.

The documentation says PSBox requires a homebrew-enabled PS5 capable of running directory-style apps. It describes manually copying the application folder into the PS5 homebrew directory and registering it with a loader. That is a modified-console setup, not an ordinary app installation on an unmodified retail PS5. No independently established firmware compatibility matrix or broad compatibility information is available in the report.
Game Pass access is not the same as an official PS5 release
According to the PSBox documentation, a Microsoft account and Game Pass Ultimate are required for most of the Xbox cloud catalog. That is a project-stated requirement; it does not establish service availability in every region or guarantee that a subscription will work through this client. The report describes access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, not a new Sony-approved Game Pass app or an official integration between Xbox and PlayStation.

How Overdrive differs from PSBox

These projects should not be treated as interchangeable ways to play the same games. Overdrive is reported as a store/library; PSBox is a streaming client that depends on Microsoft’s service and, for most of its catalog, a Game Pass Ultimate account.
Why the projects may not keep working
The PSBox maintainers state: “This is an unofficial project, not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Microsoft or Sony.” They also warn that Microsoft may change or block the services the client relies on. The disclaimer comes from the project maintainers, not either platform company, and it offers no assurance of continued access. Neither the report nor the project information establishes Sony or Microsoft approval, a company response, independent reliability testing, or long-term compatibility.
For now, the useful distinction is between what is claimed and what is confirmed: homebrew projects have been reported, and the PSBox documentation describes its intended features and prerequisites. Whether the apps work reliably across consoles, regions, accounts or service changes remains uncertain.
