Xbox achievements earned during offline play may show up on the service after you reconnect, but that behavior is not guaranteed for every game or account situation. A missing notification banner does not prove an achievement was not earned: banners, achievement history, Gamerscore, and activity reporting are separate things. For privacy, review Xbox privacy settings; hiding a game from achievement history changes how it appears on your profile, not whether its activity is reported across Xbox.
Can Xbox achievements unlock offline and sync later?
They may. In an official Xbox podcast, Jason Ronald described playing offline, earning achievements, and seeing them appear on the service after reconnecting: “when I connect online, now all of a sudden my achievements are popping on the service and whatnot.” Listen to the Xbox podcast discussion.
That account describes an experience, not a universal guarantee for every game, console generation, or account state. Keep offline progress distinct from an achievement confirmed in your online profile. Xbox has separately described how game saves can sync after a game launches, including the latest saves being backed up to the Xbox network and automatically synced on a later launch; those save-specific statements do not guarantee achievement synchronization. Why didn’t my achievement notification pop up?
A notification is the on-screen presentation of an achievement, not the achievement record itself. Check your achievement history or profile separately before concluding that the unlock failed. The precise controls and notification experience can differ between console, Windows/Game Bar, and mobile, and the available Xbox announcements do not provide one complete current menu path for toggling achievement notifications on every platform.
Xbox announced refreshed achievement notifications for select Insiders on April 8, 2026, including updated icons and animations for classic or rare achievements and colors that match the player’s custom color. A separate April 2026 platform update discussed control over where Xbox notifications appear in Game Bar and wishlist alerts in the mobile app; those details should not be mistaken for a universal achievement-notification setting across all devices. What does hiding a game from achievement history do?
Xbox’s April 2026 announcement describes a control to hide a game from achievement history. This changes profile presentation: Xbox says a hidden game still counts toward Gamerscore and activity in it continues to be reported across Xbox. The feature was introduced for select Xbox Insiders, with broader availability to follow, so check whether it has reached your device before looking for the control. The announcement also describes highlighting games for which all available Gamerscore has been earned. Xbox’s achievement announcement.
Who can see my Xbox achievements?
Visibility depends on your Xbox privacy settings. Microsoft says activity information can include achievements and may be visible to other players according to those settings. Review your privacy settings to manage what other players can see; hiding a game from achievement history is not a substitute for those controls.

For developers, Microsoft’s GDK policy says the Xbox network is the source of truth for user profile information, requires title caches intended for offline use to be updated on the next connection, and requires progress and achievements to be associated with the user who earned them. These are development requirements, not consumer troubleshooting instructions. Review the Xbox GDK policy.
