The Legacy System is account-wide horizontal progression: its challenges reward exploring the game beyond character power, and Blizzard says the announced system may gain more challenges and rewards over time.
How Legacy progression works
Blizzard describes the Legacy System as an account-wide progression system built around Legacy Challenges, Legacy Perks and Legacy Rewards. Its announcement lists 65 challenges across six categories. Each completed challenge awards one Legacy Point, which is available account-wide to non-Hardcore characters. At launch, a character can spend up to 16 points. Blizzard says one character can earn up to 29 possible points, so making alternate characters is not required to reach the stated per-character spending cap.

Access starts when you earn your first Legacy Point. Blizzard says most players will first earn one by reaching level 25. The other announced routes are reaching skill 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill or exploring the entire map on one character. See Blizzard’s Legacy System announcement for the system overview and current published details.

The nine goals below group the announced Legacy Challenges into practical tracks. You can focus on the activities you enjoy; the system does not require every player to pursue every track or use a particular group or carry method.

1. Reach class level milestones
The challenge list awards progress for reaching levels 25, 45 and 60 on each class. Treat this as a long-term reason to try different class playstyles, not as a requirement to level every class before you can make use of Legacy Perks. The levels provide milestones for players who enjoy alts, while the single-character point total means alts are optional for the stated launch cap.
2. Build primary profession skills
For each non-gathering primary profession, the announced skill milestones are 150, 225 and 300. This is a separate progression track from gathering. The Legacy Perks announcement says profession perks can affect skill gains and gathering, but those are system features—not a guarantee that every craft or gathering action will produce a gain. Check the perk description in game before planning around a particular effect.

- Requires world of warcraft standard game box contains game card only
3. Advance PvP rank
The announced PvP rank milestones are 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14. This track suits players who want structured PvP progression alongside the broader exploration and collection goals. The challenge announcement identifies the ranks, but does not establish a completion-time estimate.
4. Earn battleground reputations
The challenge list includes reaching Exalted with each battleground reputation. This is a reputation goal in its own right, distinct from the rank milestones. Blizzard’s published challenge details do not establish a fastest route or a reliable time estimate, so plan around the reputation objective rather than an assumed grind duration.

5. Complete Field of Honor season milestones
The seasonal PvP challenges name the Field of Honor PvP Season’s Journey quests for weeks 4, 7 and 10. These are tied to the season’s schedule, so their timing and availability depend on the live game. Check the current in-game season before making them the center of a plan.
6. Explore the world and complete Lord Valthalak’s questline
The adventure challenges include revealing the entire world map on one character and completing the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline. These make a natural exploration-focused track: one is about mapping the world, while the other leads through a specific questline. The world-map requirement is also one of Blizzard’s alternate routes to earning the first Legacy Point.

7. Clear dungeons across the level brackets
The dungeon challenges call for defeating the final boss in every dungeon in three level brackets: 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60. Think of these as three connected milestones that span character progression. The announcement specifies the bosses and brackets, not a preferred group composition or carry strategy.

9. Complete the announced multi-boss raid challenges
Blizzard lists two all-boss objectives: defeat all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses and all eight Barrow Deeps bosses. These are the raid challenges named for the Legacy System; do not substitute content from another Classic version. For example, Blizzard’s separate WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Phase 5 announcement discusses Ahn’Qiraj progression for level 60 characters, including Cenarion Circle and Brood of Nozdormu reputations and Tier 2.5 pieces assembled from reputation, tokens, class-specific idols and scarabs. That is Anniversary Edition context, not evidence that those are Forever Legacy challenges.

Legacy Points are account-wide, while the announced launch spending limit applies per character: up to 16 points can be spent by each character. Blizzard says a single character can earn up to 29 possible points, which makes the per-character limit a spending cap rather than a signal that you must level multiple characters to unlock it.
Perks are grouped into Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. Blizzard’s examples include increased chances for profession skill gains, faster rested experience accumulation, reduced flight costs and longer food or party buffs. The announcement also says account-wide points accumulate toward toy and cosmetic rewards. It does not promise specific unreleased challenge or reward details: Blizzard says the system is in its infancy and plans to add content in future releases.
How to choose a practical first goal
Pick a track that matches what you already want to do, then use its announced milestone as a progress marker. For instance, a player who likes class experimentation can work toward the level thresholds; a crafter can focus on one profession’s skill steps; and a PvP-focused player can track ranks, reputation or the current Field of Honor schedule. If you want to unlock Legacy access first, prioritize one of Blizzard’s stated first-point routes: level 25, profession skill 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill, or full-map exploration on one character.
Because the announcement details may change as the live game develops, confirm challenge availability and seasonal timing in game. Blizzard has announced future additions, but not specific unreleased challenges or rewards.
