For a small business, the better choice depends on how you want to build and run the site. Webflow combines visual design tools, a CMS and hosting in one hosted service. WordPress offers a wider choice of arrangements: you can use hosted WordPress.com or run the open-source WordPress software with a hosting provider you choose. Decide which WordPress option you mean before comparing price, upkeep or flexibility.
Neither platform is a guaranteed SEO, speed or value winner. The practical choice is the one that fits your editing workflow, maintenance capacity, ecommerce needs and plans for future growth.

What does “WordPress” mean in this comparison?
WordPress can mean the open-source WordPress software, which you can install with a hosting provider of your choice, or WordPress.com, a hosted service with its own plans and managed features. They are related but not interchangeable when comparing costs and responsibilities. WordPress.com explains the distinction; Webflow describes its product as a hosted platform combining design tools, CMS and hosting in its pricing information.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That distinction shapes the decision. WordPress.com bundles more of the operating infrastructure. With self-hosted WordPress, you choose the host and assemble the services and extensions you need. Webflow is hosted, so the platform and site plan are part of the same service arrangement.

How do the platforms fit different small businesses?
| Decision area | WordPress | Webflow | What to decide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hosting and setup | WordPress.com is hosted; self-hosted WordPress lets you select a hosting provider. | Hosted platform with design tools, CMS and hosting. | Do you want one bundled provider or the freedom to choose components? |
| Design and editing | WordPress.com describes a block editor; themes and plugins can extend the open-source software. | A visual design workflow is central to the product. | Who will make routine edits, and how much control over layout does that person need? |
| Maintenance | WordPress.com says it handles managed hosting, backups and security updates. Self-hosted owners need a maintenance plan. | Hosting is included with the hosted service. | Who will be accountable for updates, backups and site operations? |
| Content growth | WordPress.com says it does not cap items or collections. | CMS item and collection limits vary by plan. | Estimate how many pages and structured content entries the site may need. |
| Portability | WordPress.com describes migration to another WordPress host. | Code export excludes dynamic CMS content, and exported code cannot be reimported into Webflow. | Identify which content and functions must remain portable if you change platforms. |
Which is easier to maintain?
With WordPress.com, the provider says managed hosting, backups and security updates are handled for you. With self-hosted WordPress, you choose a host, but should also decide who is responsible for updates, backups, security configuration and troubleshooting. An independent host offers choice, not maintenance-free operation. WordPress.com’s managed-hosting documentation describes what its service handles.
Webflow’s hosted model bundles hosting with its site platform. That reduces the need to separately select a web host, but means the site depends on Webflow’s service and plan structure. In either case, clarify who will keep content current and handle problems when the person who built the site is unavailable.
How should you compare cost?
Compare the cost of the same requirements over the period you expect to operate the site—not one advertised plan price. Webflow separates site and ecommerce plans, and team collaboration can add workspace or per-seat charges. WordPress.com has its own plan options; self-hosted WordPress costs depend on the hosting provider and any paid extensions or services you choose. Taxes and billing period also affect the amount charged. Webflow’s pricing page gives the current plan structure; WordPress.com lists its plans separately.

As displayed on Webflow’s official pricing page on October 4, 2026, its site plans listed Basic at $15 per site per month and CMS at $25 per site per month, both billed yearly. The same page listed ecommerce Standard at $29 per month billed yearly, Plus at $74 and Advanced at $212; prices are in USD per site per month, with applicable checkout taxes. These are provider-listed prices, not a complete estimate of a particular business’s total costs.
Webflow’s displayed ecommerce tiers also differed in item allowances and transaction fees: Standard listed 500 ecommerce items and a 2% transaction fee; Plus listed 5,000 items and a 0% transaction fee; Advanced listed 15,000 items, with no transaction-fee figure stated in the cited pricing summary. Check the current plan details and fee definitions before committing, since pricing and terms can change.
For a useful comparison, list the features the business actually needs—such as a contact form, booking workflow, online payments, multiple editors or a growing content library—then price the matching plans, add-ons and team access. A lower entry price may not cover the functionality or collaboration the business requires.

What changes if you sell online?
Ecommerce requirements can change which platform is a fit. WordPress.com identifies WooCommerce as an ecommerce option available on paid plans; its comparison page says the Commerce plan has WooCommerce preinstalled and advertises 0% payment fees. Those are provider claims, and fee definitions and plan details should be checked on the current plan pages. Webflow offers separate ecommerce plans, with item limits and transaction-fee differences by tier described above.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteBefore selecting a route, write down the requirements that affect the actual checkout and order workflow:
- How many products or other ecommerce items will the store carry, and how quickly might that number grow?
- Which payment methods, shipping, tax handling and order-management workflows are needed?
- Which integrations are essential for accounting, inventory, bookings or customer communications?
- What payment-processing and platform transaction fees apply to the business’s sales and chosen plan?
Do not treat a stated 0% platform payment fee as a guarantee that every payment-related charge is zero; verify what the provider’s fee label covers and account for any other charges applicable to the business.

What happens as your content grows?
Webflow’s plans specify CMS item and collection ceilings, so estimate the size of the site’s content library and check the current limit for the exact plan. WordPress.com says it does not cap items or collections. That difference matters for sites built around directories, case studies, service locations, products or other structured entries—not just a small set of brochure pages.
Also consider how the site will be edited. WordPress.com describes its block editor, while themes and plugins can extend the open-source software. Webflow centers its workflow on visual design. Match the editing approach to the people who will maintain the site: a technically confident owner, a marketer making frequent changes or an outside designer may value different things.

Do not assume a platform change is a one-click transfer of the whole site. Webflow’s migration guide describes exporting WordPress content as XML by default, converting it to CSV for Webflow CMS import, mapping fields and checking collection limits. It also recommends considering 301 redirects and SEO during migration. Content can require conversion and restructuring, and functionality may need to be rebuilt. Webflow’s WordPress-to-Webflow migration guide outlines the process.
Best Value
Webflow says code export omits dynamic CMS content, and its exported code cannot be reimported into Webflow. If portability is important, list what must move—pages, media, structured content, forms, store data and site functionality—and plan how each will be handled before building. Treat redirects and URL preservation as migration tasks rather than assuming search visibility will carry over unchanged.
Does one platform perform better in search or run faster?
The available provider documentation describes product features and claims, not a controlled comparison for your business. It does not establish that WordPress or Webflow will rank higher or load faster for the same site. Search visibility and user experience depend on the built site and its content, so assess the actual pages, technical setup and required functionality rather than choosing based on the platform name alone.
Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Choose Webflow if you want a hosted service centered on visual design and CMS editing, and its plan limits, pricing and portability trade-offs fit your needs.
- Choose WordPress.com if you prefer a hosted WordPress service and want its provider-managed hosting features; compare the plan that includes the functions your business needs.
- Consider self-hosted WordPress if choosing your own host and extending the site with WordPress themes and plugins are priorities, and you have a plan for maintenance.
- Pause before deciding if ecommerce, a large content library, team editing or a future platform move is likely. Verify fees, item limits, integrations and export requirements against the current plans.
