WordPress SEO Plugins: 10 Options to Match to Your Site

A practical shortlist of ten WordPress SEO plugin options, with a framework for checking features, compatibility, pricing, and fit without claiming a universal winner.

There is no evidence-based universal winner among WordPress SEO plugins. The right choice depends on the controls your site needs—such as metadata, sitemaps, schema, and redirects—as well as compatibility, workflow, and cost. The ten names below are options to evaluate, not a ranked performance list: WordPress.org’s SEO directory identifies candidates but does not compare their effect on search rankings.

How to choose a WordPress SEO plugin

Start with the work you need the plugin to do, not its popularity or “all-in-one” label. Compare the specific controls you will use and confirm which are included in the free version versus a paid plan.

  • Metadata: Can you set titles and meta descriptions for the content types and pages that matter?
  • Indexing and sitemaps: Can you manage XML sitemaps and mark appropriate URLs or content groups noindex?
  • Schema: Does it support the structured data your site needs?
  • Redirects and migration: Will it help preserve URLs when you change plugins or restructure content?
  • Workflow and integrations: Does it fit your editor, page builder, store, or local-business setup?
  • Compatibility and maintenance: Check the plugin’s current WordPress and PHP requirements, latest release, and update history before installing.
  • Total cost: Compare the features you need against the number of sites covered, not just the starting price.

WordPress.org’s SEO tag directory is useful for discovering plugins and checking listing details, but its installation counts and compatibility labels are snapshots, not proof of quality or ranking impact. Browse the WordPress.org SEO tag directory.

Ten WordPress SEO plugins to evaluate

This is a practical shortlist drawn from the directory’s candidate pool, not a verified ranking or a claim that every plugin has the same feature set. The available current detail supports specific claims about Yoast SEO and SEOPress; for the other options, verify features, maintenance, and compatibility on their current official listings before choosing.

  1. Yoast SEO: The WordPress.org listing describes XML sitemap updates as content changes and says content marked noindex is excluded from the sitemap. It also documents URL- or group-level noindex controls. The listing reports version 28.6, released September 29, 2026, 10+ million active installations, a requirement of WordPress 6.9 or higher, and testing through WordPress 7.1.3. These are listing details accessed in 2026, not evidence of superior search results. Check the Yoast SEO directory listing.
  2. Rank Math: A candidate listed in WordPress.org’s SEO directory. Check its current listing for the controls, compatibility, and plan terms relevant to your site.
  3. All in One SEO (AIOSEO): Also listed in the directory. Verify the current feature gates and compatibility against your actual requirements.
  4. SEOPress: Its official directory listing describes metadata, schema, XML sitemaps, redirections, migration, and integrations. Verify which of these are included in the version or plan you intend to use. Check the SEOPress directory listing.
  5. The SEO Framework: A directory-listed option. Review its current listing and documentation to determine whether its controls suit your workflow.
  6. SureRank: Listed in the SEO tag directory. Confirm current maintenance, compatibility, and features before installing.
  7. SiteSEO: Another directory-listed candidate. Check its official listing for current compatibility and capabilities.
  8. Redirection: A narrower SEO-related tool in the directory’s candidate pool. Assess it for redirect management rather than assuming it replaces a broader SEO plugin.
  9. Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP: A narrower candidate for sites evaluating structured-data needs. Confirm current support and compatibility on its listing.
  10. XML Sitemap Generator for Google: A narrower sitemap-related candidate. Check whether its capabilities overlap with a broader plugin you already use before adding it.

The directory’s available details do not establish a complete, like-for-like audit of all ten candidates. Treat the final three narrower tools and the less-documented broad options as starting points for verification, not endorsements or guaranteed current feature recommendations. See the directory’s current SEO-tag results.

Free features, paid plans, and site count

Do not assume that a plugin’s headline feature list applies to its free tier. Check plan limits for each function you need, then calculate the cost for all the sites you manage. SEOPress’s published pages illustrate why checking product and checkout details matters: its listing says SEOPress PRO starts at $49 per year for one site and $149 per year for unlimited sites, while its pricing page lists SEOPress Insights at $99 per year per site. The pricing page says taxes are excluded and the final price depends on location; confirm current checkout terms and feature availability before purchasing.

What an SEO plugin can—and cannot—prove

A plugin can help implement site-level settings such as metadata, sitemap rules, schema, and redirects. The sources cited here do not establish that one plugin produces better rankings than another, or that installing a plugin by itself increases traffic. Installation counts show adoption, not effectiveness. Yoast’s directory listing reports 10+ million active installations, but that number is not a ranking comparison.

Nor can a plugin guarantee that an AI assistant will mention a site. Yoast’s vendor-authored FAQ puts it this way: “Nobody can guarantee that an AI assistant will mention your site, however you can make sure it understands your content correctly.” That is guidance from the vendor, not an independent finding.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
