There is no supported Facebook Group feed embed in WordPress’s built-in Facebook Embed block, and the Smash Balloon Social Post Feed listing says Group feeds stopped updating in April 2024. You can still link to a Group, embed an eligible public Facebook post, or use a Facebook Page feed as a separate option—but none of those is a live Group-feed integration.
What WordPress can and cannot connect
WordPress’s Facebook Embed block supports eligible public Facebook posts, but its documentation explicitly says it cannot embed Facebook pages, events, or groups. The documentation also records that Facebook closed its oEmbed endpoint on October 24, 2020; at the time, WordPress said publishers seeking Facebook embeds needed a developer account, an app ID, and an authentication token. Plugin support is also subject to change. The WordPress.org listing for Smash Balloon Social Post Feed says its Facebook Group feeds stopped updating in April 2024 following changes on Facebook’s end. Meta’s 2018 announcement described tighter approval requirements and restrictions on third-party access to Facebook Groups API data, including member information; it is historical context, not a complete statement of current API permissions. Meta’s announcement does not establish a current route for automatic Group-feed syncing.
Five safe ways to connect WordPress and a Facebook Group
These options serve different purposes. Only the public-post embed and Page-feed option display Facebook content; the others are navigation or publishing workflows, not integrations that retrieve a Group feed.
#1 Best Overall
| Approach | What appears on WordPress | Updates | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Link to the Group | A link that takes visitors to Facebook | Link destination stays the same; Group posts remain on Facebook | Sending eligible visitors to the community |
| Embed a public post | One eligible public Facebook post | Not a continuously updating Group feed | Featuring a specific public announcement |
| Display a Facebook Page feed | Page content, not Group content | Page-feed behavior depends on the plugin | Organizations that also publish relevant updates on a Page |
| Publish a curated copy | Authorized content published as a WordPress post or page | Manual; no automatic synchronization established | Keeping selected updates available on your site |
| Make WordPress the home for recurring updates | Original announcements on your site, shared as links in the Group | Manual publishing and sharing | Maintaining a site-owned archive of updates |
1. Link to the Group
Add a normal link or button that directs visitors to the Group. This is the simplest way to connect the two destinations without suggesting that Group posts will appear on your site. Before publishing, check the link on the actual site and confirm that its audience and access requirements suit the visitors you expect.
2. Embed one eligible public Facebook post
Use WordPress’s Facebook Embed block for a public post when the post and embed workflow are eligible. This displays a particular post; it does not subscribe your site to new posts in a Group. WordPress’s documentation covers the block and its Group limitation in the Facebook Embed guide.

3. Display a Facebook Page feed instead
If your organization can publish the relevant updates on a Facebook Page as well as in its Group, a Page-feed plugin may be an option. The Smash Balloon Social Post Feed listing describes Facebook Page feeds and oEmbed support, but its Group-feed cutoff means this should not be presented as a way to synchronize Group content. Check the plugin’s current documentation and requirements before relying on it.

4. Publish a curated copy on WordPress
For a selected Group announcement, obtain the author’s permission and publish an appropriate version directly on your site. Do not copy private Group material or member contributions without consent. This is a manual editorial process, not an automated integration.

5. Make WordPress the home for recurring updates
Publish recurring announcements on your WordPress site, then share links to them in the Facebook community using a workflow the Group’s administrators permit. This gives the site a durable, searchable version of the updates without depending on a feed connection. The available sources do not establish an official current third-party route that automatically retrieves or posts Group content.

- Want to send visitors to the community? Link to the Group and make sure the destination is accessible to the intended audience.
- Want to feature a single announcement? Embed an eligible public post, or publish an authorized copy on your site.
- Want a feed on the site? A Facebook Page feed is a distinct possibility if you can publish there; it is not a Group feed.
- Want a reliable archive of ongoing updates? Publish the originals on WordPress and share those links in the Group.
Be cautious of claims that a plugin currently provides reliable, automatic Facebook Group feeds unless its current authoritative documentation demonstrates that capability. The WordPress.org support discussion also reports a plugin support responder’s explanation that an official-API-based product could no longer provide Group feeds; this is corroborative context rather than Meta’s current permissions documentation.
