The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) is an open standards organization that develops wireless-power standards, including Qi, the wireless charging standard used by smartphones and other portable devices. It also runs certification processes so consumers and manufacturers can check whether a specific product has been tested for compliance and interoperability.
What is the Wireless Power Consortium?
Established in 2008, the Wireless Power Consortium is a group of technology companies that develops standards for wireless power. WPC says its mission is to set global standards for safety, efficiency, and interoperability. Its organization page reported more than 300 member companies when checked on October 7, 2026; membership and counts can change.

WPC is the organization behind the standards, not a charger brand or a wireless-charging technology in itself. Its standards provide common requirements that manufacturers can use when designing products intended to work across brands.
What is Qi, and how is it related to WPC?
Qi is WPC’s wireless charging standard for smartphones and other portable consumer devices. WPC says Qi launched in 2010 and its Qi page listed more than 13,000 Qi Certified products when checked on October 7, 2026. That count is WPC’s own figure, not an independent market tally.
#1 Best Overall
- HIGH-SPEED DYNAMIC CHARGING: Enjoy fast and efficient charging with optimized chipsets that deliver 15W for LG, 10W for Samsung, and 7.5W for iPhones using compatible 15W wireless chargers
- SLEEP-FRIENDLY LED INDICATOR: The wireless charging mat uses LED lights to quietly indicate charge status, without disturbing your sleep with notifications
- CASE FRIENDLY DESIGN: This wireless phone charger pad lets you conveniently charge without removing cases; power is transmitted through rubber, plastic, or TPU cases under 5mm thick. For faster charging with iPhone remove all cases before charging. Avoid charging with magnetic and metal cases or credit cards on; these cases will prevent operation
- SAFE TO USE TECHNOLOGY: Qi-certified phone charging pad with protection safeguards against over-temperature, over-voltage, and over-current issues for a secure charging experience
- COMPATIBLE WITH MULTIPLE DEVICES: The charger works with iPhone 15/14/13/12/11/X along with various Samsung and LG models. Note- AC adapter is not included
Qi has developed through multiple specification versions: WPC lists v1.0 (2010), v1.1 (2012), v1.2 (2015), v1.3 (2021), and v2.0 (2023). WPC’s current Qi information also describes Qi2 and Qi2 25W; it says Qi2 25W launched in July 2025. The standard and version a charger supports matter because a device and charger must support compatible capabilities to deliver the intended charging experience.
How does WPC certification work?
WPC requires a product to pass its certification process before it may carry the Qi or Qi2 logo. As described by WPC, the process includes compliance testing at an Authorized Test Lab and interoperability testing at an Interoperability Testing Center, followed by WPC review. The tests address safety, interoperability, and energy efficiency.

Certification is not the same as a WPC endorsement, and WPC says it does not guarantee that a product is safe. Manufacturers remain responsible for meeting applicable product-safety requirements. Certification provides evidence that the identified product passed WPC’s process; it does not remove the need for manufacturers to comply with relevant laws and other requirements.
How to check whether a product is really Qi Certified
- Find the product’s exact model name or number on its packaging or manufacturer listing.
- Open WPC’s Certified Products Database and search for that model.
- Check that the database result matches the product you intend to buy, including the manufacturer and model identity. A similar product name or a seller’s unsupported claim is not enough to verify certification.
WPC’s certification guidance says only a certified product is allowed to carry the Qi logo. When a listing is missing or the identity does not match, treat the certification claim as unverified rather than assuming that a logo image or marketplace description proves it.

Does WPC work on anything besides phone charging?
Yes. WPC is also developing Ki, a wireless power standard for cordless kitchen applications. WPC describes Ki as an emerging area, and its knowledge base lists Ki specification v1.0.3 as available to members. That information does not establish that a broad range of Ki products is currently available in retail stores.
