Yes—wired headphones are having a measurable rebound, but that does not mean they have overtaken wireless models. Circana reports that wired-headphone sales rose in 2025 after five years of declines, with further growth early in 2026. True wireless products still accounted for the largest share of headphone dollars in 2025.
What the recent sales figures show
Circana Retail Tracking Service reported a 3% increase in wired-headphone sales in 2025, equivalent to about $15 million. The increase gathered pace later in the year: sales rose 10% from July through December 2025. Circana then reported a 20% revenue increase during the first six weeks of 2026. These figures appear in Ben Arnold’s February 25, 2026 article, “Wired Headphones Growth Is a Throwback to 2016.”

The figures support calling this a recent rebound in Circana’s tracked category. They do not establish a worldwide trend or prove that growth will continue. Circana’s report also does not show that wired headphones have displaced wireless ones: true wireless products accounted for 65% of all headphone dollars in 2025. That is a share of category dollars, not a direct comparison of wired and wireless unit sales.

Why some listeners may be choosing wired
Price is one possible draw. Circana put the 2025 average selling price at about $13 for wired headphones, compared with $99 for Bluetooth headphones. Those are category averages, not guaranteed prices for a particular model or today’s listings. Circana points to affordability and renewed interest in throwback products as possible contributors, but the reported figures do not prove what motivated individual buyers.

Wired headphones also avoid the need to charge the headphones themselves and can suit listeners who prefer a simple connection. The trade-off is a cable to manage and a connector that must work with the device. Wired does not automatically mean universally compatible or better for every listener.
What to check before buying wired headphones
- Connector and device support: Check whether the headphones use a 3.5 mm plug or USB-C, then confirm that your phone, computer, or other source supports that connection. A phone without a 3.5 mm jack may require a compatible USB-C audio connection or an adapter. Support and adapter compatibility vary by device, so verify the exact combination before buying.
- Battery and convenience: Wired headphones do not require their own battery for the connection, but the cable can snag or limit movement. Wireless models remove the cable and add charging and pairing to the routine.
- Fit and features: Choose the form factor that suits how you listen. Check whether the product’s microphone and controls meet your needs; do not assume every wired or wireless model has the same features.
- Replacement and use: Consider how you will use and carry the headphones, and whether a cable or wireless setup better fits your daily routine. The right choice depends on your device and priorities, not on the sales trend alone.
What the comeback does—and does not—mean
The available figures show renewed growth in Circana’s reported wired-headphone category, alongside a much larger true-wireless share of headphone dollars in 2025. They do not show that phone manufacturers are bringing back the headphone jack, that wired listening is becoming the dominant choice, or that the increase will last. For buyers, the practical takeaway is narrower: wired headphones remain a potentially lower-cost option, provided the connector works with the device.
