Hosting.com’s shared plans are presented as a general-purpose platform, while its documented Windows option is a self-managed VPS—a different product that requires server administration. Choose by application requirements and how much server management you can take on, not by declaring one host universally better.

How do Winhost and Hosting.com differ?
The main distinction is product type. Winhost lists Windows shared hosting with Windows Server, IIS 10.x, ASP.NET/.NET and SQL Server. Hosting.com describes its shared hosting around NVMe storage, LiteSpeed caching and common web technologies. Its documented Windows product is a self-managed Windows VPS, where the customer receives server access and takes on more administration.
| Decision point | Winhost | Hosting.com |
|---|---|---|
| Product relevant to this comparison | Windows shared hosting with IIS, ASP.NET/.NET and SQL Server listed in the plan comparison. | General-purpose shared hosting; a separate Windows VPS is documented as self-managed. |
| Management model | Shared hosting; the provider describes isolated application pools for sites. | Shared hosting is available; the Windows VPS requires the customer to manage the server. The VPS page says OS and control-panel updates are not included. |
| Backups in provider materials | Website and database cloud backup listed as a storage-priced add-on. | Daily off-server backups and restore options for the previous 30 days are advertised; check the specific plan’s scope and restore terms. |
| Published uptime figure | 99.9% listed for all four shared plans; provider claim. | 99.9% SLA advertised for shared hosting and 99.9% uptime advertised for Windows VPS; provider claims. |
These uptime figures do not establish which service is more reliable. The reviewed provider materials do not supply an equivalent independent uptime test or enough matching SLA details to rank them.
Does Winhost support ASP.NET and SQL Server?
Yes. Winhost’s current comparison lists Windows Server 2019/2016, IIS 10.x, Web Deploy, isolated application pools, ASP.NET/.NET versions and SQL Server 2022/2019/2017 across all four shared tiers. That makes it the more direct option to investigate when an application depends on a Windows/IIS runtime or SQL Server. Confirm that the exact framework version and database features your application needs are supported before migrating.
Winhost shared-plan limits and listed prices
Winhost shows prices per month with two payment terms: one-year payment or three-month payment. The values below are provider-listed prices, not a third-party price check.
Rank #2
| Plan | Monthly price: one-year payment | Monthly price: three-month payment | Website disk | Monthly bandwidth | Site memory | SQL databases / storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $4.95 | $5.95 | 3 GB | 50 GB | 100 MB | 1 / 500 MB |
| Max | $9.95 | $11.95 | Unlimited | Unlimited | 300 MB | Unlimited / 2 GB |
| Ultimate | $19.95 | $21.95 | Unlimited | Unlimited | 500 MB | Unlimited / 5 GB |
| Power | $44.95 | $49.95 | Unlimited | Unlimited | 1 GB | Unlimited / 10 GB |
These are vendor-listed plan features, not measured capacity or performance results. All four tiers list 24/7 technical support, free setup and free site migration. Winhost’s comparison shows SSL unavailable on Basic and available on higher tiers; scheduled tasks and MDF attachment are listed for Ultimate and Power, not Basic or Max. It lists 99.9% uptime for each tier, a provider-published figure.

The same comparison lists a new domain starting from $17.87 per year and privacy protection at $8.95 per year. Those are volatile listed prices; verify availability and total at checkout. Website and database cloud backup is an add-on priced by storage, so include it if you need it.
Does Hosting.com offer Windows hosting?
Hosting.com’s published shared-hosting materials describe a general-purpose shared environment, not a Windows/IIS shared plan. Its separately documented Windows option is a Windows VPS with Windows Server 2022 and full root access. The reviewed pages do not conclusively establish whether another managed shared Windows/.NET offering exists, so ask Hosting.com to confirm compatibility if you require Windows shared hosting.
What the Windows VPS entails
The Windows VPS is self-managed. Hosting.com says OS and control-panel updates are not included, so root access comes with responsibility for server administration. The page advertises eight global data center locations and a starting promotional price of $15 per month, alongside a crossed-out $29.99 price. Those are time-sensitive advertised terms, not a guaranteed current total. Before choosing it, confirm the current charge, renewal price, included resources, Windows licensing and any management or control-panel costs.

What does Hosting.com shared hosting include?
Hosting.com’s shared-hosting page advertises NVMe storage, LiteSpeed caching, malware protection, free SSL, migration and a 30-day money-back guarantee. It also advertises daily off-server backups with restore options for the previous 30 days and a 99.9% uptime SLA. These are provider claims; check the plan terms for exclusions, eligibility and remedies.
A separate Hosting.com plan-comparison page reviewed for this comparison is the Canada regional version. It lists 30-day backup retention, granular backups and self-service restore, but its regional plan prices and specifications should not be assumed to apply to every USD plan. Confirm backup coverage, retention and restore options for the exact plan and region you would buy.

How should you compare price and renewal cost?
Winhost publishes monthly prices tied to one-year or three-month payment terms. Hosting.com says promotions and prepaid-term discounts may apply, then plans renew at regular pricing after the prepaid period. Its renewal information does not establish one stable renewal amount for every plan. A promotional monthly equivalent is not directly comparable to Winhost’s stated payment-term pricing.
- Compare the amount charged today and the total prepaid commitment for the same term.
- Check the renewal amount and renewal period, rather than relying on an introductory headline price.
- Add relevant extras: domain registration, privacy, backups, SSL if not included, VPS licensing, control-panel costs and any server-management service.
- Recheck terms at checkout; plan inventory, prices and included features can change.
Which host should you choose?
Start with Winhost if you need Windows shared hosting
Investigate Winhost first if your application specifically depends on shared IIS, ASP.NET/.NET or SQL Server. Match its tier to required SQL storage and site memory, and check whether you need SSL, scheduled tasks or MDF attachment before choosing a plan.
Start with Hosting.com shared hosting for a compatible general-purpose site
Investigate Hosting.com’s shared plans if your site fits its published shared platform and you want the described LiteSpeed, NVMe and backup offering. Verify the runtime, database and other application requirements rather than assuming that general-purpose shared hosting supports Windows-specific features.

Consider the Windows VPS only if you can administer it
Hosting.com’s Windows VPS may suit a workload that needs a Windows server and root access, provided you are prepared to handle the server-management work the self-managed product leaves to you. It is not a like-for-like substitute for managed Windows shared hosting.
Quick Recap
What to verify before moving a site
- Application compatibility: Identify the required operating system, IIS or other web server, framework version, database engine and database features.
- Capacity: Check storage, bandwidth, memory and SQL limits against actual needs; “unlimited” plan labels do not replace checking service terms.
- Backup and recovery: Ask what files, databases and email are covered, how long copies are retained, whether restores are self-service and whether fees or limits apply.
- Support and administration: Confirm support access and responsibilities, especially for VPS updates, security and control-panel maintenance.
- Performance and reliability: Do not infer speed or comparative reliability from storage labels or uptime headlines. No comparable independent benchmark is established here; if performance is critical, test with a representative workload and review the applicable SLA, exclusions and remedies.
- Full cost: Compare equivalent billing terms and include renewals and necessary add-ons before making a decision.
