How do I jump to a position in a Windows scrollbar?
When an app uses a Win32 scrollbar, hold Shift and click the track at the position you want. The thumb jumps there directly instead of moving only one page at a time. The shortcut is useful when the scroll thumb is small and dragging it precisely is awkward.

There is also a related option: right-click the scrollbar and choose Scroll Here. That command moves the thumb to the chosen position without requiring you to drag it from its current location.
Why doesn’t Shift-click work in this app?
Windows applications do not all use the same scrollbar implementation. Frameworks can draw and handle scrollbars differently, so a gesture supported by one kind of scrollbar may be absent from another. In a September 22, 2026 article for Microsoft’s The Old New Thing, longtime Windows developer Raymond Chen compared the behavior across several implementations.

Chen’s WPF observation is qualified: it “appears” to implement both behaviors. The comparison is qualitative, not a guarantee for every app built with a framework; individual applications can customize their controls.
What makes the shortcut 26 years old?
Chen says Shift-click and the scrollbar context menu arrived in Windows 2000. That makes the shortcut 26 years old in 2026. He describes Shift-click as an especially hidden feature, and says he had only recently learned of it himself; his account does not provide further detail about when or how he discovered it.

What should I try if the gesture is missing?
- Try Shift-clicking the scrollbar track, not the thumb, in an app whose scrollbar behavior you want to check.
- If that does nothing, right-click the scrollbar and look for “Scroll Here.” Its absence may reflect the app’s implementation rather than a problem with your mouse.
- If neither option is available, use the app’s ordinary scrolling controls or drag its thumb. A different mouse cannot add a gesture the app’s scrollbar does not implement.
The practical takeaway is that this is a useful shortcut to know, not a Windows-wide guarantee. WinUI XAML, in particular, does not provide the two behaviors in Chen’s comparison, even though Chromium-based scrollbars used by Electron support Shift-click.
