Change the All apps view
- Open Start.
- Open All apps.
- Choose Category, Grid, or List from the view control.
Microsoft documents these three presentations for installed apps in the All section. Its guidance does not specify the control’s exact screen position, which can vary with the Start menu presentation on your PC. The selected All apps view is remembered by Start. (Microsoft Support)

What the three views change

All apps is separate from Pinned
All apps is the installed-app area and has the Category, Grid, and List options. Pinned is a separate Start section for pinned apps and other pinned items; its grid arrangement is not the same setting as the All apps view. Changing the installed-app presentation does not mean you are changing which items are pinned. (Microsoft Support)

Open and browse All apps with a keyboard
- Press the Windows key to open Start.
- Press Tab until focus reaches All apps, then press Enter.
- Use the Up and Down arrow keys to move through apps. In Grid view, arrow keys navigate the options.

Controls for the overall menu size, section visibility, or profile display are separate from the Category, Grid, and List choices inside All apps. Microsoft’s notes for the September 22, 2026 preview, Windows 11 26H1 build 28000.3086, describe additional Start options, including menu-size choices and section visibility.
