Change Auto zoom out in Settings

- Select Accessibility, then Narrator.
- Under the Math section, open Math reading.
- In Math navigation, switch Auto zoom out on or off.
The third-party instructions do not describe a separate apply or save step. Microsoft documents Windows logo key + Ctrl + N as a shortcut to Narrator settings generally, but its customization page does not identify the Auto zoom out control: Microsoft’s Narrator customization guide.

What the setting changes
Windows 11 Forum and Geek Rewind describe Auto zoom out as a math-navigation behavior: after Narrator reads a nested part of an expression, it returns to the surrounding expression. This is not a claim that Windows Magnifier changes screen magnification. The precise behavior has not been confirmed by the Microsoft pages cited here. The third-party tutorials report that the option is on by default. Leave it on if you want the reported automatic return to the surrounding expression; turn it off if you prefer not to have that return. The preference guidance follows the tutorials’ description and is not a tested recommendation.

Availability and documentation limits
A Windows 11 Forum tutorial dated September 27, 2026 reports the feature in Windows 11 build 26340.9354 (Experimental 26H2), with expanded language and browser support from build 26340.9577. It lists English (United States), English (United Kingdom), Traditional Chinese, Finnish, German, and Spanish, and reports supported web content in Microsoft Edge Stable 153.0.4234.32 and later and Chrome Stable 153.0.8010.18 and later. These are claims from that third-party tutorial, not Microsoft-confirmed general availability; check Microsoft release notes for current support details.
Narrator itself is built into Windows 11 and does not require a separate download or installation, according to Microsoft’s Complete guide to Narrator.

Keep math navigation separate from math speech
Auto zoom out is described as a navigation option. Narrator’s separate Math punctuation level controls reading of most mathematical symbols; Microsoft discusses it in Chapter 4: Reading text. Changing punctuation level is not the same as turning Auto zoom out on or off.
