The Moto G96 5G is the better on-paper fit if you want a curved 144 Hz display, an IP68 rating, a lighter body and a larger rated battery. The Samsung Galaxy M36 5G is the stronger fit if you want microSD expansion or a longer stated software-support window. For price, compare the same storage configuration at checkout: the available India listings vary by seller and snapshot, so they do not establish a reliable overall price winner.

Manufacturer specifications describe listed features, not comparative test results. They cannot establish which phone is faster in everyday use, takes better photos, lasts longer on a charge or offers better value. Samsung’s India product page and Motorola’s India support information are the primary references for their respective specifications: Samsung Galaxy M36 5G and Moto G96 5G specifications.

Which display is the better fit?
Choose the Moto for a curved screen and higher refresh rate
The Moto G96 pairs a curved pOLED panel with a listed maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz. Motorola also lists peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The peak-brightness figure is a manufacturer specification, not evidence of a head-to-head brightness test. Curved edges are a matter of preference: they can make the screen feel more immersive, while some buyers prefer a flat panel for handling or screen-protector fit.

The Galaxy M36 has a 6.7-inch-class FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Its panel is the more straightforward choice if you specifically prefer a flat screen. Both phones advertise high-refresh-rate OLED displays; the listed 144 Hz versus 120 Hz figures alone do not show how smooth a particular app or game will feel.

Storage and performance: the practical difference
Galaxy M36: add a memory card
The M36 is listed with 128 GB or 256 GB of built-in storage and microSD expansion up to 2 TB. The card uses the hybrid SIM slot, so check the exact SIM arrangement before buying if you need both two SIMs and a memory card.
Moto G96: no card expansion
The Moto G96 is listed with 128 GB or 256 GB of storage and no memory-card expansion. If you keep large offline video, photo or music libraries, choose a capacity that will accommodate them from the start.
Motorola lists the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, while Samsung lists an octa-core CPU at 2.4/2.0 GHz; a third-party comparison identifies the Samsung chip as Exynos 1380. Chip names and clock speeds are not enough to declare a performance winner. No comparative benchmark or hands-on speed test is established here.

This device is compatible with T-Mobile networks and its MVNOs in the United States, carrier compatibility, activation, and network performance may vary depending on IMEI acceptance policies, carrier requirements, regional network support, and available frequency bands.
- NOT compatible with the MVNO's (Spectrum, Cricket, Xfinity, H2O, Visible, etc.), may not recognize international IMEI numbers for activation. Carrier compatibility is not guaranteed in all areas of the United States. Please verify compatibility with your carrier prior to purchase. Camera hardware: what the specifications do and do not tell you
Both phones list optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main rear camera and an 8 MP ultrawide. The M36 adds a 2 MP macro camera and lists 4K video recording at 30 fps. Motorola lists autofocus on the G96’s ultrawide camera and names its 50 MP main sensor as Sony Lytia 700C. The G96 has a higher-resolution front camera on paper, at 32 MP versus 13 MP on the M36.
Those differences describe hardware, not photo quality. Megapixel counts, a named sensor and the presence of OIS do not establish which phone produces better daylight, night, portrait or selfie images. No comparative camera shootout is available to support a camera winner.
Battery capacity and charging
Motorola lists a 5,500 mAh battery and 33 W TurboPower charging for the G96. Samsung lists a 5,000 mAh typical battery for the M36 and says its approximately 25 W fast charger is sold separately. Samsung’s stated typical capacity is distinct from its 4,905 mAh rated minimum. Check the exact package contents and regional variant before assuming a charger is included.

The Moto’s larger listed capacity and higher stated charging wattage may be useful buying considerations, but neither figure proves longer real-world battery life or a faster full charge. Those outcomes depend on usage and charging conditions, and no comparative endurance or charge-time test is established here.
Size, weight and protection
The Moto G96 is listed as 178 g and 161.86 × 73.26 × 7.93 mm; the M36 is listed as 197 g and 164.4 × 77.9 × 7.7 mm. On those specifications, the G96 is lighter and narrower, while the M36 is slightly thinner. Motorola lists an IP68 rating and a vegan-leather body for the G96. Do not infer an equivalent water- or dust-protection rating for the M36: one was not established in the cited Samsung information. Samsung’s comparison data mentions glass construction and Gorilla Glass Victus+, but verify the exact variant’s documentation if that protection detail matters to your purchase.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Software support: Samsung states the longer window
Samsung advertises six generations of OS upgrades for the M36 and lists security updates through December 31, 2031. Samsung cautions that this describes current plans rather than a commitment and that update timing or content can change. Motorola lists Android 15, one OS upgrade and three years of security maintenance releases for the G96. These published policies favor the M36 for buyers prioritizing a longer stated support horizon, but neither listing gives a precise rollout date for every update.

India prices: compare matching storage, not isolated listings
The available price figures are snapshots, not a dependable like-for-like price comparison. Motorola’s India storefront showed ₹20,999 for the Moto G96 8/128 GB on October 7, 2026. Smartprix showed ₹23,999 for a Galaxy M36 8/128 GB and ₹24,998 for a Moto G96 listing in a result reported updated September 29, 2026. A separate Smartprix snapshot accessed October 7, 2026 showed ₹21,999 for the M36 8/256 GB and ₹18,990 for the G96 8/256 GB. Seller, offer and listing details can differ, and the cited G96 8/128 GB snapshot does not establish a matching configuration for its ₹24,998 listing.
Check the live listing for the same RAM and storage tier, seller, date and offer conditions before deciding which costs less. The price references are Motorola India’s Moto G family storefront and Smartprix’s comparison listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhich phone should you choose?
- Pick the Moto G96 5G if a curved 144 Hz display, lighter listed weight, IP68 rating, larger rated battery or 32 MP front-camera resolution matters most to you.
- Pick the Samsung Galaxy M36 5G if microSD expansion or Samsung’s longer stated OS and security-support window better suits how long you plan to keep the phone.
- Compare the exact listing before buying if price is decisive. The supplied India price snapshots differ by storage tier, seller and date, so they do not support a single overall price winner.
- Do not choose solely on camera, speed or battery life claims based on these specifications; the available evidence does not include direct comparative tests for those outcomes.
Launch dates are close: Samsung lists June 27, 2025 for the M36, while a third-party comparison page lists July 9, 2025 for the G96. Motorola notes that specifications may vary by market, so confirm the India variant and package details for the listing you intend to buy.
