It is a preview feature in Experimental Insider builds, rolling out gradually to a subset of testers. Microsoft has not published a list of supported peripherals or a general-release date.
What the widget is designed to do
Microsoft announced the widget in the release notes for Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26340.9616, dated October 7, 2026. The notes describe it this way: “This widget provides a unified view of battery levels for your PC and peripheral devices, helping you quickly assess power status without hunting through multiple UI locations.”

The same notes carry a caveat that matters for anyone expecting a permanent feature. They state that features in these builds “might never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback,” and that features may change, be removed, or be replaced. Some may never leave the Windows Insider program.
How to add the Battery Status widget
On a device that has received the feature, the steps are:
#1 Best Overall
- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Open the Widgets board.
- Select Add widgets.
- Select Battery Status from the list.
If Battery Status does not appear in the list, the most likely explanation is that the feature has not reached your device yet. Gradual rollout means eligible Insiders can see it on different days, and a missing entry is not an error you can fix from settings.
Who can get it, and when
The widget is available only in Insider builds for now. The table below separates what Microsoft has stated from what secondary reports add.
Rank #2
- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.

Neowin also covered the feature on October 8, 2026, describing it as an Insider addition. That report adds coverage but no new details on rollout or devices.
Which devices it will show
The biggest open question is which peripherals the widget can read. Microsoft’s description refers only to “peripheral devices.” It does not name brands, models, or connection types. Based on the official material and the October 2026 coverage, the following points remain unresolved:
Rank #3
- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
- Whether devices connected over standard Bluetooth report their charge level.
- Whether USB receivers, proprietary wireless dongles, or vendor software are needed.
- How often the displayed percentages refresh.
- What the widget shows for a device that disconnects or goes to sleep.
Until Microsoft publishes a compatibility list, you cannot tell in advance whether a particular mouse, keyboard, or headset will appear. Buying hardware for this widget would be a guess.
What the earlier preview suggested
Windows Central reported on September 7, 2026, before the official announcement, that preview-build strings and assets appeared to show a vertical device list. In that layout, the PC’s battery sits first, followed by device names, percentages, and possible indicators for charging and energy saver. The same report said the widget might also appear on the lock screen.

These details come from unfinished preview assets, so treat them as an early impression rather than a description of the shipping design. Microsoft’s October 7 announcement names only the Widgets board. Lock-screen placement has not been confirmed in the official notes, so do not plan around it.

What would settle the open questions
Three things would resolve most of what is currently unknown: a later Windows Insider release note that lists compatible devices, a statement on how the widget behaves with each connection type, and an announcement of a stable-release timeline. Until one of those appears, the widget is best treated as a preview feature that may or may not reach regular Windows 11.
