Event dates and time zones
Nintendo gives the window in Pacific Time, and the times below are the same instant expressed in Eastern Time for readers elsewhere. Both dates fall during daylight saving time in North America, so the offset is PT is three hours behind ET.

Nintendo lists the following requirements for the Open:

- A Nintendo Switch 2 system
- A copy of Mario Kart World
- A Nintendo Account
- An internet connection
- A Nintendo Switch Online membership, which is sold separately and is needed for online features
The announcement does not name any controller, headset, storage card, or other accessory as necessary.
How to enter the event
Use this sequence in Mario Kart World:
- From the main menu, select Online Play.
- Press the minus (-) button to search for an event.
- Enter event ID 4450.
- Join and play during the stated window, from October 17, 2026, 2:00 p.m. PT, to October 18, 2026, 6:00 p.m. PT. Entry is tied to participating in the event during that period, so an entry made after the window closes does not count.
Event format and rules
The Open uses fixed settings, so there is no need to choose options once you find the event:

The participation reward
Eligible participants in the North and South American regions can receive 50 My Nintendo Platinum Points. Nintendo says the points will be ready to claim on the Missions page on or about October 27, 2026 (PT). The phrase “on or about” means the date is an estimate, not a fixed release time. The announcement describes eligibility by region and participation; it does not list further reward criteria.

Public results and account information
Nintendo warns that account-associated information, including your username, player icon, and score, may be publicly visible on the event results page. If you want to keep your name or profile hidden, consider that before you play.

The October Open and the December Fall Cup
The Open is a qualifier for the Mario Kart World Fall Cup 2026, which Nintendo says will take place in December and is exclusively for North American players. Nintendo’s announcement states this in its own words:
“This event is a qualifier for the Mario Kart World Fall Cup 2026 that will take place exclusively for North American players in December.”

The Fall Cup details come from a promotional summary included in the same announcement. As summarized there, no purchase is necessary; legal residents of the United States (including Washington, D.C.) and Canada aged 13 and older, and Mexico aged 18 and older, who have the required system, game, account, reliable high-speed internet, and an eligible online membership may take part. The summary describes a tournament period from September 19 to approximately December 12, and says winners are determined by skill. These are summary terms only. For the complete terms, use the official rules link in Nintendo’s announcement. The summary does not establish that the October Open follows the same eligibility rules.

It converts to a one-month auto-renewing membership at the then-current price unless you cancel, and it carries restrictions and country limits that the announcement lists. Check those conditions before you sign up, especially if you only need the membership for this event.
