Check a drive that is missing from This PC
Use Disk Management or Disks & volumes to determine whether Windows sees the disk or its volumes. These are inspection tools, not a guarantee that a missing drive can be made accessible. A device must be recognized by Windows, and a volume may need a drive letter to appear as a browsable drive.
Inspect disks and drive letters in Disk Management
Open Disk Management by right-clicking Start and selecting Disk Management, searching Windows for “Disk Management,” or running diskmgmt.msc. You can also open it through Computer Management. Microsoft says the tool works the same way in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft’s Disk Management guidance explains its use for disks, volumes, and drive letters.

- Easily store and access 5TB of content on the go with the Seagate portable drive, a USB external hard Drive

Before changing anything, identify the disk and volume carefully. Do not initialize or format a disk just to make it appear: formatting destroys data, and disk-management changes can have consequences. If the disk contains files you need, avoid destructive actions and seek help appropriate to the situation.

Review connected storage in Settings

Connect to a drive shared over a network
A folder on another computer or server is not necessarily a local drive shown automatically under This PC. To assign it a drive letter, open File Explorer, select This PC, then choose More > Map network drive. You can also right-click This PC and select the mapping option. Enter the network folder’s location and complete the prompts. Microsoft provides the steps in its network-drive mapping guide.
If the connection fails, check that the remote computer or server is on and reachable, and that your account has permission to access the shared folder. Mapping cannot grant access that the network account does not have.

Hidden files are not missing drives
File Explorer’s View > Show > Hidden items setting controls whether hidden files and folders appear. It does not reveal a disk or volume that is absent from This PC; use Disk Management or Disks & volumes to inspect those instead. See Microsoft’s File Explorer guidance.
External USB drives and Storage Spaces are different
An external USB drive can be used normally in File Explorer when Windows recognizes it. Storage Spaces is a separate Windows feature with its own eligibility requirements; a drive’s eligibility for Storage Spaces is not a prerequisite for browsing it in File Explorer. Microsoft explains the distinction in its Storage Spaces guidance.
