Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If Bluetooth on your Windows 11 PC is missing, will not pair, has no sound, or keeps disconnecting, the right fix depends on the symptom. Microsoft’s first recommendation is to run the Bluetooth troubleshooter in the Get Help app; after that, check the relevant device, audio, driver, or power settings below. The official guidance provides troubleshooting steps, not evidence about how often these problems occur or which fix works most often.
Start with the symptom
- Bluetooth controls are missing or disabled: Windows may not be detecting the PC’s Bluetooth hardware correctly.
- The accessory will not connect: Check the PC’s Bluetooth setting and the accessory’s charge, range, and pairing mode.
- The device connects but audio is wrong: Check Windows’ selected output and the device’s audio capabilities.
- The connection drops repeatedly: Check power-saving settings and Bluetooth drivers.
These are distinct problems: a USB adapter may add Bluetooth to a PC that lacks it, but it is not a general remedy for a faulty internal radio, driver trouble, or poor audio.

Try Microsoft’s first steps for a device that will not connect
- Run the automated troubleshooter: Open the Get Help app and run its Bluetooth troubleshooter. Microsoft lists this as its first troubleshooting step. See Microsoft’s Bluetooth connection troubleshooting guide.
- Confirm Bluetooth is on: In Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices and check the Bluetooth switch.
- Prepare the accessory: Make sure it is charged or has fresh batteries, is close to the PC, and is in pairing mode. Follow the accessory maker’s instructions for entering pairing mode.
- Remove and add it again: If it was paired before but will not reconnect, remove it from Settings > Bluetooth & devices, then choose Add device and pair it again.
Microsoft’s pairing instructions also explain the basic process. If Windows still cannot find the accessory, check that it is discoverable and that it is not already connected to another device.
If Bluetooth is missing or grayed out
A missing or disabled Bluetooth switch points to a different issue from a headset that simply will not pair. Microsoft says the PC’s Bluetooth hardware may have encountered an error. Start with a complete shutdown, then check Windows and the PC maker’s driver and firmware support rather than assuming the accessory is at fault.

Check the format and device capabilities
Microsoft advises checking the Bluetooth device’s audio format settings as well as the selected output. Treat a format change as a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed way to improve quality: the result depends on the device and its supported formats. For higher-quality Bluetooth streaming, Microsoft also says to check whether the PC and accessory support the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). See Microsoft’s connected-but-no-sound guidance.
If Bluetooth keeps disconnecting
Repeated drops can be related to power-saving settings, outdated drivers, or a temporary system glitch. Check power management before changing multiple settings at once, so you can tell whether a change helps.

- Review the adapter’s power setting: In Device Manager, open the Bluetooth adapter’s properties and check its power-management options. If Windows is allowed to turn off the adapter to save power, test with that option disabled when available.
- Update the Bluetooth driver: Use Windows Update or Device Manager, and consult the computer manufacturer for the driver intended for your exact PC model.
- Restart and retest: After a driver or power-setting change, restart the PC and check whether the connection remains stable.
Microsoft outlines these checks in its guide to Bluetooth repeatedly disconnecting in Windows.
Update, reinstall, or roll back a driver carefully
Driver recovery depends on the Bluetooth adapter and PC model. Microsoft documents updating, reinstalling, and rolling back drivers; a rollback is relevant when the problem began after a recent driver change and the option is available.

A USB Bluetooth adapter is a conditional solution for a PC that does not have Bluetooth. Microsoft states: “If a Windows device doesn’t have Bluetooth, a USB Bluetooth adapter can be plugged into a USB port on the Windows device to add Bluetooth.” Check that the adapter supports Windows 11 and follow its driver instructions. Microsoft’s Bluetooth pairing guide describes this option.
