What the Crane Adorable is—and what the review actually tested
Crane’s Adorable line uses animal-themed housings for ultrasonic cool-mist humidifiers. Listings have included designs such as the Hippo, Frog, Cow, Unicorn, and Train, but naming and availability can vary by model and retailer. The 2018 review discussed the Hippo and compared its results with earlier testing of other animal versions.

BabyGearLab’s Wendy Schmitz published the review on September 16, 2018. In that comparison, the tested Adorable earned 51 points overall and ranked fifth among nine humidifiers. Those figures describe one publisher’s test at that time; they are not a current market ranking.

The review’s central trade-off was a playful appearance and relatively quiet operation against maintenance and handling friction. The tank opening was too small for a hand, so the reviewer recommended a bottle brush for reaching inside. BabyGearLab also described a full tank as awkward to handle, noted the relatively large footprint, and reported no humidistat or adjustable mist direction.

Results differed by animal design
BabyGearLab reported that its tested Hippo produced less mist than the Frog it had reviewed earlier. Its sound measurements also differed: the Hippo reached a reported maximum of 40.2 dB, the Frog tested below 40 dB, and the Cow measured 52 dB. These are review-team results for those named designs, not standardized specifications for the entire product family.
Coverage, noise, capacity, and runtime: why published figures conflict
The 2016 Crane manual and the 2018 BabyGearLab review do not give the same room-coverage or noise figures. The available sources do not establish whether the difference comes from version, measurement conditions, or test method, so no single figure should be treated as definitive for every Adorable unit.

Both sources describe a one-gallon tank and up to 24 hours of operation, but those are stated or reported figures rather than a guarantee of runtime in every setting. Mist output, room conditions, and the particular animal model matter. For a purchase decision, check the exact model’s documentation and listing rather than relying on a family-wide coverage or sound claim.

Crane’s 2016 instruction manual provides the care instructions below. Unplug the humidifier before filling, emptying, cleaning, or maintenance, and follow the manual supplied with your exact unit if it differs; Crane notes that instructions may change.

Daily care
- Use fresh, cool water; do not use hot water.
- Empty the tank and base daily and allow them to air dry.
- Leave the tank cap off until the next use.
Weekly cleaning
The manual calls for weekly cleaning using vinegar followed by rinsing as directed in its cleaning procedure. A narrow bottle brush can help reach the tank interior, but it is an aid—not a replacement for the manual’s steps. Do not add medication, essential oils, or salt to the tank or basin.
White dust and excess moisture
For white mineral dust, Crane recommends switching to filtered or distilled water or using a Crane Demineralization Filter cartridge. Verify that any cartridge is compatible with the precise model: compatibility can vary across designs. If moisture accumulates on nearby surfaces, the manual advises leaving the room door open and lowering mist output in small rooms.
