Why macOS fit this author’s work
Fewer interruptions, by personal account
The author found macOS less prone to unwanted prompts after setup and contrasted that experience with Windows 11 prompts promoting Microsoft services. They recall one unwanted feature prompt after the initial macOS setup, associated with Apple’s rollout of generative AI features. These are personal recollections, not measurements of prompt frequency across either operating system or evidence that all users will have the same experience.
The applications they needed were available
During the transition, the author says Microsoft 365 applications ran natively on macOS. Later, they shifted mainly to WPS Office and found support for those tools more active on macOS and Windows than on Linux. That experience does not establish compatibility for every application, version, plugin, or specialized workflow. Enough customization without as much day-to-day friction
The author values control and customization, but found macOS customizable enough for their needs while avoiding some of the friction they associated with everyday Linux use. App-icon customization and third-party tools were among the examples discussed. This is a personal balance, not a claim that macOS offers the same depth of control as every Linux distribution or that Linux necessarily demands extensive maintenance.

Why Linux still mattered—and why Windows 11 was frustrating
The author continued using Linux on laptops for experimentation and specific purposes, and described it as a strong option for people who prioritize customization, privacy, and control. They also reported occasional compatibility issues and tasks that could require more technical knowledge. Those observations are the author’s assessment, not a verdict on every distribution, device, or user.
Windows 11’s interruptions and service promotions were a frustration for this author. The article does not compare identical configurations under controlled conditions, report a survey, or establish that every Windows user sees the same prompts.
