Yes—Windows 10 can still be good for gaming if it runs the games you play and your hardware, graphics drivers, and anti-cheat software are supported. Windows 10 PCs did not stop working when support ended on October 14, 2025. But Microsoft no longer provides routine software or security updates or technical support, so continued playability comes with a security trade-off.
There is no evidence here for a universal Windows 10-versus-Windows 11 frame-rate winner. The useful decision is whether your particular games and PC work well on Windows 10, whether your system can upgrade, and whether you want Windows 11’s supported gaming features.

Can you still play games on Windows 10?
Yes. Microsoft says Windows 10 PCs continue to function after support ends. That means the end-of-support date did not itself disable games or stop the operating system from launching. It does not guarantee that every current or future game will work: compatibility depends on each game’s requirements, your graphics hardware and drivers, and whether the game’s publisher supports its anti-cheat software on your setup.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For a game you care about, check its published system requirements and support notes, then check that your GPU vendor still provides a suitable driver for your Windows version. A game’s minimum requirements are separate from whether a particular anti-cheat system supports your operating system.

What Windows 10 end of support means for gamers
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft no longer provides Windows 10 software updates, security updates or fixes, or technical support. Microsoft warns that a device without continued security updates faces greater risk from viruses and malware. This is a security and maintenance concern—not a claim that games stopped working on that date.
Microsoft says its consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program can protect a Windows 10 device until October 12, 2027. That is a security-update option, not a return to full Windows support or a guarantee of game compatibility. Check Microsoft’s current eligibility and enrollment terms before relying on ESU.

Is Windows 10 faster than Windows 11 for gaming?
No blanket performance verdict is justified. The official Windows documentation describes features, but does not establish that Windows 11 universally delivers higher frame rates than Windows 10. Results for an individual PC can depend on the game, hardware, settings, drivers, and Windows build. A meaningful comparison would need to test the same hardware and game under controlled, matching conditions.
Valve’s optional, anonymous Steam Hardware & Software Survey reported Windows 11 64-bit at 59.84% and Windows 10 64-bit at 35.69% in June 2025. This is a dated snapshot of participating Steam users—not a census of PC gamers, a compatibility list, or evidence of which operating system has better performance. Valve’s survey page

What Windows 11 gaming features might matter?
Auto HDR
On a compatible HDR display, Windows 11 Auto HDR can increase the color range and brightness of older SDR games. The feature requires suitable display hardware and compatible games; having Windows 11 alone does not make every game display in HDR. Microsoft’s Auto HDR guidance
Optimizations for windowed games
Windows 11 includes optimizations for compatible DirectX 10 and 11 games running in windowed or borderless-windowed mode. Microsoft says these optimizations can move compatible games to the flip model and reduce frame latency; they can also enable Auto HDR and variable refresh rate on supported displays. These are conditional features, not proof that Windows 11 raises average FPS in every game. Microsoft’s windowed-game optimization guidance

DirectStorage
Microsoft has described reduced load times for games that implement DirectStorage when paired with an NVMe SSD and a DirectX 12 GPU. The benefit applies to games built to use the feature; it is not a general speed-up for every game. Microsoft’s October 2021 Windows Experience Blog also said Auto HDR would upgrade more than 1,000 DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 games at that time. That is a dated announcement, not a current compatibility count. Microsoft’s October 2021 Windows Experience Blog

Check Windows 11 compatibility
Microsoft recommends the PC Health Check app to assess whether a PC can upgrade. Windows 11 minimum requirements include a DirectX 12-compatible graphics card, TPM 2.0, UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability, at least 4 GB of RAM, and at least 64 GB of storage. These are operating-system minimums, not recommended gaming specifications; a PC can meet them and still fall short of a particular game’s requirements. Microsoft’s Windows 11 specifications

Should you keep Windows 10 or upgrade?
Use your actual games and hardware to make the choice—not a general claim that one Windows version is faster.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Staying temporarily may make sense if your games run well, your drivers and anti-cheat support remain available, and you accept the security implications of an unsupported operating system.
- Consider upgrading if your PC passes Microsoft’s compatibility check and you want Windows 11 features or continued Windows support.
- Consider replacing the PC only if it cannot meet your needs or you already need new hardware. Microsoft lists a new Windows 11 PC as an option for systems that cannot upgrade; Windows 10 continuing to function does not make a new PC necessary by itself.
- Before spending on hardware, compare your CPU, GPU, memory, and storage with the requirements of the games you actually play. An operating-system upgrade cannot compensate for hardware that falls short of those requirements.
Microsoft’s end-of-support explanation confirms that Windows 10 software continues to function after support ends: Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025.
