Rovio has not announced a return of Angry Birds Star Wars. A revival remains possible, but unconfirmed: the clearest reported obstacle is third-party licensing, and current official announcements about the broader Angry Birds brand do not establish that a Star Wars game deal is being pursued or is available.
What Rovio has and hasn’t announced
Rovio’s official announcements reviewed here confirm activity around the wider Angry Birds franchise, but not a return of this particular game. On January 8, 2026, Rovio and SEGA said worldwide Angry Birds licensing activities would be unified under SEGA’s transmedia licensing operations. The announcement describes long-term investment in the brand, but does not mention Angry Birds Star Wars or a new game project. Rovio and SEGA’s licensing announcement

Rovio, SEGA, and Prime Focus Studios announced production of The Angry Birds Movie 3 on June 6, 2024. Rovio’s 2026 licensing announcement lists a December 23, 2026 theatrical date. That is evidence of continued activity in the general franchise, not confirmation of a Star Wars game, renewed game rights, or a tie-in. Rovio’s film announcement

Historical reporting says the game was removed from app stores in 2019. It also reports that Rovio brand director Steve Porter said in a 2021 development update that a re-release was unlikely because of third-party licensing. That was a dated assessment, not proof that a future agreement is impossible. The sources reviewed do not establish the current status of the relevant Star Wars rights or whether a new agreement is being pursued. Historical game information and reporting

Rovio’s move into SEGA’s broader licensing framework does not resolve that question. The official announcement quotes Justin Scarpone, SEGA’s EVP and Global Head of Transmedia: “By fully integrating Angry Birds into SEGA’s global licensing framework, the combined strength of these organizations is poised to unlock the brand’s true potential.” The statement concerns the overall Angry Birds brand; it does not mention Star Wars or confirm a game license.
What “bringing it back” could mean
A return could take several forms, and each would require a clear official announcement before it should be treated as real. None of the following has been confirmed in the sources reviewed.

| Possible return | What it would involve | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Restore the original mobile game | Make the legacy release available again on supported mobile platforms, subject to rights and platform requirements. | Not announced |
| Remaster or remake | Update or rebuild the original game; this is a distinct project from simply restoring an old app. | Not announced |
| Sequel | Develop a new game in the licensed series, requiring a project commitment as well as rights clearance. | Not announced |
| Different licensed crossover | Create a new Angry Birds and Star Wars collaboration that need not be a re-release of the original game. | Not announced |
Can you still play the original?
The reported 2019 app-store removal means readers should not assume the original mobile download is currently available. The game also had console releases, including PS4 and Xbox One, so used physical copies may be an option. Listings, condition, and compatibility vary; check the exact platform, region, disc condition, and seller details before buying. A secondhand copy is a legacy release, not evidence of a new launch. What to watch for in a real return announcement
To distinguish a confirmed project from speculation, look for an announcement that identifies the game or collaboration and provides concrete release or platform details. Broad statements about Angry Birds growth, licensing, films, or merchandise do not by themselves confirm a Star Wars game. Rovio’s licensing page lists general consumer-product categories such as toys, apparel, publishing, and collectibles, but does not verify current Angry Birds Star Wars-specific merchandise.
