It offers reimbursement of up to 80% of eligible vet bills, a $12,000 annual benefit limit and no excess, but sublimits and exclusions can materially reduce what a claim pays. Whether it suits your pet depends on its age and health, the treatment limits you need, and the premium in your personalised quote.
What Guardian Platinum covers
Guardian’s current comparison describes Platinum as covering eligible veterinary expenses for accidents and illnesses. Its headline benefits are a maximum reimbursement of 80% of eligible bills, a $12,000 annual benefit limit and no excess. These are not guarantees that every bill will be reimbursed at that rate: eligibility rules, exclusions, and annual or condition-specific limits apply. See Guardian’s plan details and policy booklet for the wording.

Limits within the annual cap
The policy booklet lists a $300 annual sublimit for consultations and a $2,600 annual sublimit for cruciate ligament conditions. These sit alongside the overall $12,000 annual benefit limit, so reaching the headline cap is not the only way a payout can be constrained. The booklet notes that an individual certificate may show a higher cruciate ligament limit; check your certificate rather than assuming the standard figure applies to every policy.
Routine care and dental treatment
Routine preventive treatment is not part of the standard Platinum cover described in Guardian’s comparison; the plan lists optional Routine Care with benefits up to $80. Guardian’s FAQ says dental procedures and fractured teeth are generally not covered. The precise treatment definitions and any exceptions should be checked in the policy wording and your certificate. See Guardian’s pet insurance FAQs.

Who can enroll, and when cover starts
Guardian’s public information sets the Platinum entry age at eight weeks or older and under nine years at enrollment. The policy booklet specifies these waiting periods:
- Illness: 30 days.
- Cruciate ligament conditions: six months; the booklet says this may be waived on application.
- Listed specified accidental injuries: no waiting period.
The no-waiting-period provision is limited to the specified accidental injuries in the policy, not all injuries or all treatment. Review the booklet’s definitions and conditions before relying on a waiting-period exception.

Pre-existing conditions and ongoing cover
Guardian’s summary identifies chronic and pre-existing conditions as excluded. The policy booklet includes a process for review of certain pre-existing conditions after an 18-month period; that process is not a blanket promise that an existing condition will become covered. Eligibility depends on the policy’s definitions and review requirements, so ask Guardian how the clause applies to the specific condition and get the answer in writing before relying on it.

Guardian says cover may be renewed for life only while it continues to offer the product, premiums are paid, there is no break in cover, and renewal terms are met. Renewal terms can change between policy periods. “Renewable for life” therefore does not mean premiums or terms are fixed, or that a condition excluded under the policy will later be covered.

How Platinum compares with Guardian’s other plans
Guardian’s current public comparison lists these headline figures. Sublimits, exclusions and policy wording still matter across all three plans.

| Annual benefit limit | $12,000 | $12,000 | $12,000 |

How much does Guardian Platinum cost?
Guardian does not publish one universal Platinum premium. Its FAQ says price depends on factors including the cover selected, pet species, breed and age, as well as other business costs. Renewal calculations also take age, breed and health data for similar pets into account. Get a quote using your pet’s actual details, then compare it with other policies using the same pet profile and cover settings. Do not compare premiums alone: check reimbursement rates, sublimits, waiting periods and exclusions.

Who issues the policy, and what is known about claims?
Guardian says Hollard issues the policy and PetSure arranges and administers it. The reviewed public materials do not establish a Guardian-specific claim acceptance rate or average payout, so the headline reimbursement percentage should not be read as evidence of typical claim outcomes. For an independent perspective, CHOICE has a Guardian Platinum review, but its rating and detailed findings are available to members rather than on the public page.

Is Guardian Platinum worth considering?
Platinum may be worth a quote if you want a higher stated reimbursement rate than Guardian’s Gold and Bronze plans, and the plan’s age rules fit your pet. Its value is less clear until you account for the $300 consultation and $2,600 cruciate ligament sublimits, the illness waiting period, exclusions and the premium quoted for your animal. Check the current policy booklet and certificate, then compare like-for-like quotes; the available public information is not enough to declare it the best choice for every pet.
