Sony’s new Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) could be relevant to GTA VI, but there is no official confirmation that the game will use it. Announced for standard PS5 on October 1, 2026, QSSR is an AI-upscaling library intended to improve image detail and stability. Sony’s first named games are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei—not GTA VI.
What Sony’s new QSSR feature does
Sony describes QSSR as a new performance tier of AI upscaling developed from Project Amethyst, its graphics collaboration with AMD. The company says it combines a streamlined neural-network architecture with an implementation tuned for PS5 performance. Sony characterizes PSSR as the “gold standard on PS5 Pro” and positions QSSR as a tier for standard PS5, with the aim of improving image detail and stability. These are Sony’s descriptions, not independent comparative test results. Sony’s QSSR announcement

Upscaling is a way for a game to render an image at one resolution and reconstruct a higher-resolution-looking output. AI upscaling uses a neural network as part of that process. Sony has not provided a GTA VI-specific explanation of how QSSR might be implemented, or figures for resolution, frame rate, or image-quality gains in that game.

No. Sony said that Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei were receiving patches on October 1, 2026, to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. Sony also said it would make the library broadly available to PlayStation developers. That makes QSSR a possible option for other games, but availability to developers is not confirmation that a particular game will adopt it. GTA VI is not named in Sony’s announcement. Sony lists GTA VI for PS5 and PS5 Pro, with a release date of November 19, 2026; it is not listed for PS4. Platform compatibility does not establish QSSR support, nor does it show that one PS5 model will run the game better. PlayStation’s GTA VI page
What Sony has confirmed about GTA VI on PS5
Sony has highlighted several PS5 features for GTA VI that are separate from QSSR. These include DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, effects through the controller’s speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the console’s high-speed SSD for near-instant loading. Sony’s statement that GTA VI will “play best on PS5” is promotional language tied to those immersive features, not an independent performance comparison between PS5 and PS5 Pro. Rockstar’s extended look, dated August 27, 2026, is described as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That identifies the platform used to capture the footage; it does not confirm QSSR, establish a PS5 Pro comparison, or disclose final performance specifications. Rockstar’s extended look

The official material cited here gives no GTA VI resolution or frame-rate target, QSSR performance gain, or comparative result for PS5 versus PS5 Pro. It therefore does not support a performance ranking between the two consoles or a claim that buying a PS5 Pro is necessary for GTA VI.
