As of October 4, 2026, Rockstar’s official game page and its June 24 pre-order announcement list the launch platforms and describe a single-player experience, but do not announce either feature. That is not proof Rockstar will never add them; it means players should not count on them unless Rockstar says so.
What cross-play and cross-progression mean
- Cross-play lets players on different systems play together—for example, someone on PlayStation playing with someone on Xbox.
- Cross-progression carries a player’s account or game progress between systems. It is separate from being able to play together.
Rockstar has not confirmed either feature for GTA 6 in the official materials reviewed.

What Rockstar has announced for GTA 6
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a launch date of November 19, 2026. The page does not describe cross-play, cross-progression, or an online mode.

Take-Two Interactive’s June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement for Rockstar Games calls GTA VI a “single-player experience.” That wording describes what the announcement presents; it does not establish what online content Rockstar might announce later.

Does GTAV progress migration tell us what GTA 6 will do?
No. Rockstar’s 2022 GTAV and GTA Online announcement described a one-time migration of existing GTAV Story Mode and GTA Online progress to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. That was a GTAV-specific transfer offer—not a promise of permanent shared progression, and not evidence that GTA 6 will support cross-progression.

GTA 6 is currently announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but cross-play between those platforms has not been confirmed. If playing with friends on another system is decisive, wait for an explicit Rockstar announcement rather than assuming the feature will be available. GTA Intel’s FAQ, updated September 12, 2026, also reports that Rockstar has not confirmed cross-play, cross-progression, or an online mode; that is secondary corroboration, not an official statement.

Because the official page and pre-order announcement are silent on these features, their status could change if Rockstar publishes new details. Until then, treat both as unannounced, not as features that are guaranteed or definitively ruled out.
