Probably in some form, but the size and type of any benefit are not yet confirmed. PlayStation Store lists Grand Theft Auto VI as “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” which signals a Pro-specific enhancement. It does not say whether that means a sharper image, steadier performance, different graphics settings, or a combination. The cited official sources do not confirm that GTA VI uses PSSR, Sony’s PS5 Pro upscaler, or give a game-specific resolution or frame-rate comparison.
What is confirmed about GTA VI on PS5 Pro?
The clearest evidence is the PlayStation Store listing for Grand Theft Auto VI, which labels the game “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” That is an official signal that the game has a Pro-specific enhancement; it is not a technical description of what the enhancement does.

Rockstar lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as the announced platforms on its official GTA VI page. The PlayStation Store listing is for the PS5 version and carries the Pro Enhanced designation. Neither that listing nor the cited Rockstar support information provides a GTA VI-specific breakdown of image quality, performance, graphics modes, or the upscaling method.

| Question | What the official information establishes |
|---|---|
| Is GTA VI listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced? | Yes. The PlayStation Store listing uses that label. |
| Does the label confirm PSSR use? | No. The listing does not name an upscaler. |
| What resolution will it use on PS5 Pro? | No GTA VI-specific resolution is stated in the cited official sources. |
| Will it run at a higher frame rate on Pro? | No GTA VI-specific frame-rate comparison is stated. |
| Which graphics settings or modes will differ? | No game-specific settings or modes are described in the cited listing or announcements. |
So, “PS5 Pro Enhanced” supports saying that a Pro-specific enhancement is signaled. It does not support promising a particular output resolution, a faster frame rate, or a visible improvement of a certain size. Those are separate outcomes, and the label alone does not identify which one Rockstar is targeting.

What console upscaling does
A game renders a frame by calculating the color and other visual properties of pixels. In broad terms, upscaling takes a rendered image and reconstructs it for a larger output image. A game can therefore present an image at the display’s output resolution without rendering every pixel at that resolution from the start. The reconstruction method can affect how much detail appears, how stable fine edges look, and how artifacts or softness show up.
Sony describes PSSR as an AI library that analyzes game images pixel by pixel while upscaling. The intention of an upscaler is not simply to enlarge pixels like a basic resize; it uses information in the rendered image to produce a more detailed-looking output. The exact result depends on the game’s implementation and the image being processed. A technology description explains the general approach, not what any one game will look like.
Upscaling also should not be treated as synonymous with a higher frame rate. A developer can use performance headroom in different ways, such as targeting sharper output, more stable image reconstruction, or other graphics improvements. Whether an enhancement changes resolution behavior, frame rate, graphics settings, ray tracing, or several of those is a game-specific decision. No cited official GTA VI information establishes such a trade-off or configuration.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPSSR and GTA VI are not the same claim
Sony’s February 27, 2026 announcement says an upgraded version of PSSR would roll out globally to PS5 Pro players. Sony named Resident Evil Requiem as the first title for that upgraded version and said PSSR had been used to boost effective resolution in more than 50 PS5 Pro titles by then. Those are platform-level statements: they describe Sony’s technology and its use across other games, not GTA VI’s implementation.
That distinction matters because the PS5 Pro label and a PSSR confirmation answer different questions. The store label indicates a Pro-specific enhancement. A statement that GTA VI uses PSSR would identify a particular technique. The cited store and Sony materials do not make that second statement for GTA VI. It is reasonable to ask whether PSSR is involved, but it should be treated as unconfirmed unless Rockstar or Sony names it for this game.
What the PS5 Pro label can—and cannot—tell you
The label is useful as a buying and compatibility clue: it tells a prospective player that the PS5 Pro version is intended to have some enhancement relative to the base PS5 experience. Its limits are just as important. It does not quantify the change or say whether a player will notice it more in motion, in fine detail, or in a particular graphics mode.
To establish how meaningful the enhancement is, a direct comparison needs to look at the game on both consoles rather than infer results from the badge or from another title. The relevant dimensions include:
Recommended Free Tools
- Image clarity and stability: whether fine detail remains clear during movement and whether edges or objects flicker.
- Resolution behavior: how the rendered image and output resolution differ, if they do.
- Frame rate: the actual performance target and consistency, rather than a general assumption that a Pro model is faster.
- Graphics settings: whether quality options, draw distance, effects, or other settings change.
- Ray tracing: whether ray-traced effects are present or differ between versions.
These are comparison criteria, not confirmed GTA VI outcomes. Until the game’s implementation is described or measured in a direct comparison, there is no official basis in the cited sources for ranking the base PS5 and PS5 Pro versions on these dimensions.
Does Sony’s new QSSR announcement mean GTA VI will use it?
No. Sony announced QSSR for base PS5 on October 1, 2026, describing it as a quicker performance tier of AI upscaling for that console. The announcement named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as its first games; it did not name GTA VI. QSSR and PSSR are distinct announcements for different console contexts, and neither should be assigned to GTA VI without game-specific confirmation.

Sony’s QSSR announcement also includes a description from Daniel Craig, Principal Engineer, Graphics R&D at Sony Interactive Entertainment: “PSSR analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses AI to upscale them with more detail and stability than conventional approaches; until now, its computational demands made bringing that experience to PS5 impossible.” This is Sony’s explanation of its upscaling approach, published in that October 1 announcement. It does not establish that GTA VI uses PSSR or QSSR.

In a June 24, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Sony said GTA VI would take advantage of PS5 features including DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the PS5 SSD. Sony also called PS5 the best place to play in the context of its close partnership with Rockstar. That is a platform-holder statement about the PS5 experience and features, not an independent comparison of base PS5 and PS5 Pro image quality or performance.

Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, spatial audio, and storage are parts of the console experience, but none answers whether the Pro version renders at a different resolution or runs at a different frame rate. A general statement about PS5 features should not be read as a technical specification for the Pro version.
Should you buy a PS5 Pro specifically for GTA VI?
The available information is not enough to conclude that a PS5 Pro is worth buying solely for GTA VI. The listing establishes a Pro-specific enhancement, but without details about what changes or direct comparisons, it cannot tell you how large the benefit will be or whether it matches your priorities.
A practical decision depends on what else you want from the console and what kind of improvement matters most to you. If you already own a Pro, the label is a reason to watch for a fuller technical explanation, not a guarantee of a particular visual result. If you are choosing between consoles mainly for GTA VI, wait for Rockstar or Sony to publish game-specific details, or for credible direct comparisons, before paying extra on the assumption of a particular resolution or frame-rate advantage. If you are considering the Pro for a broader set of games, weigh those titles separately rather than treating GTA VI’s badge as proof of a specific performance gain.
Sony’s February 2026 figure of more than 50 PSSR-supported PS5 Pro titles gives context for the technology’s use across the platform, but it is not a forecast for GTA VI. Each game can use an enhancement differently; another title’s result cannot establish this game’s settings or performance.
Platform and physical-edition details to check
Rockstar’s announced platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If buying a PlayStation version, note Rockstar’s support article, last updated August 18, 2026: the physical edition is a code in a box, not a disc. The code is subject to platform-account regional restrictions, and Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with the platform account to avoid activation problems. See Rockstar’s GTA VI platforms, editions, and versions guidance before purchasing a physical package if region compatibility is a concern.
What to look for when more details arrive
A useful GTA VI Pro comparison should state the console models and game version tested and show the same scenes under comparable conditions. Look for measurements and observations that separate output resolution from internal rendering behavior, and frame-rate targets from frame-rate consistency. A simple “looks better” claim is less informative than evidence showing what changes and when those changes are visible.
It is also useful to distinguish official specifications from independent testing. An announcement can confirm which upscaler or graphics mode a developer chose; a comparison can show how the delivered game behaves in practice. For now, the official sources cited here establish the Pro Enhanced listing and the general purpose of Sony’s upscaling technologies, but not a GTA VI-specific result.
