Yes. Google Ads can identify promotions on an advertiser’s website landing pages and add them to eligible Search and Performance Max campaigns. You can switch the feature off at the account level and check which offers Google added. This is separate from Merchant Center’s distinct automated-promotions feature.
How Google Ads Automated promotions works
Google Ads Help says it identifies and sources promotions from website landing pages—for example, a “Buy one get one free” offer—and may attach them to eligible campaigns. This is automated extraction from your site, not a promotion asset you manually entered. The offer needs to be visibly available on the landing page; keep the page and terms accurate if you do not want an outdated offer considered. Which campaigns may use it
Google lists active Search and Performance Max campaigns with Location Assets as eligible, provided a manual promotion is not currently running on the campaign and the campaign meets standard Google Ads policies. Eligibility does not mean every offer will appear in every ad or placement.
How long a sourced promotion may serve
Google’s documentation says an automatically sourced promotion may serve for less than 24 hours at a time, then may be enabled again if Google’s systems verify that the offer is still visibly available. Google says this behavior is expected to change as it extracts offer start and end dates, so check the live help page for the current implementation.

How to turn Automated promotions off
- In Google Ads, open Assets.
- Open Account level automated assets.
- Select Advanced settings.
- Set Automated promotions to Off. To allow Google to source promotions, set it to On.
Google documents this as an account-level control. Interface labels can change; consult the current Google Ads instructions if the path differs in your account.
How to see which promotions Google added
- Open Assets in Google Ads.
- Filter Asset type to Promotion.
- Look in the Added by column: automatically sourced promotions are marked Google AI.
- Hover over the item for sourcing details, where available.
Google recommends looking at campaign impressions and conversions as well as clicks on the promotion itself when assessing results. Its documentation does not establish a general conversion lift from automated promotions.

Choose automated or manual promotion assets

Do not confuse this with Merchant Center automation
Merchant Center has a separate automated-promotions source that extracts eligible offers from product detail pages for Shopping ads and free listings. Google describes that feature as a closed beta, not a universal Google Ads setting. Its help page lists the United States, France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and India, but beta availability and supported offers can change. The documented offer rules vary by country: for example, US percentage-off and amount-off offers require codes, while coded free gifts and free shipping are listed for France, Germany, and Japan. Loyalty-only deals and sale-price/strikethrough prices are among the unsupported types on that page. Check Google Merchant Center Help: Automated promotions for current eligibility and controls; offers can be ended individually or automatic updates removed.
This is also distinct from Merchant Center’s regular submitted Promotions workflow. Google says the Promotions add-on can apply to Shopping ads, Local Inventory Ads, and free listings, with policy and SKU review typically completed within 12–24 hours of the promotion effective start time. Another separate feature uses marketing content from email communications. Merchants can opt out in Merchant Center under Settings > General > Marketing content usage.
