Sometimes, but an OtterBox case does not automatically stop a Galaxy S21 from charging wirelessly. OtterBox says many of its cases work with Qi wireless chargers, while noting that compatibility depends on the particular case’s design, materials, and thickness. Samsung also lists third-party covers as a possible cause of wireless-charging problems. The exact case, phone, and charger combination matters.
Does the Galaxy S21 support wireless charging?
Yes. Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series datasheet specifies 15W wireless charging. That is the phone’s stated capability, not a guarantee that a particular charger—or a charger used through a specific case—will deliver 15W.

Samsung’s January 2021 launch announcement also describes WPC-certified wireless charging and Qi-compatible Wireless PowerShare. Wireless PowerShare lets the phone supply power to another compatible device; it is different from placing the S21 on a charging pad.

OtterBox’s FAQ says many OtterBox cases are compatible with Qi wireless charging, but that compatibility varies with the case’s design, materials, and thickness. This is general guidance, not a test confirming every OtterBox model for the Galaxy S21.

Consequently, the brand name alone cannot establish whether your setup will charge reliably. Identify the case model and confirm that it fits your exact phone. Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra are different models, and their cases are not interchangeable. OtterBox’s January 2021 announcement lists cases for the S21 family, including Otter + Pop Symmetry, Symmetry, and Defender lines; it does not establish current stock or verify charging performance for every model.
What to do if your Galaxy S21 will not charge with the case on
- Check the fit. Make sure the case is for your exact Galaxy S21 variant. OtterBox provides model-specific installation instructions.
- Check the charging setup. Verify that the pad is powered and place the phone centrally on its charging area. Remove accessories or other objects between the phone and pad if they are not intended to be there.
- Compare with the case removed. Try charging the bare phone on the same pad. If it charges without the case, the case, an attached accessory, or placement may be involved; this comparison alone does not identify which one caused the problem.
- Reinstall the case and retry. If charging fails again, check the case and charger instructions. A thinner or otherwise compatible case, or another Qi charger, can provide a useful comparison, but neither is a guaranteed fix.
- If it still fails without the case, check the charger, cable, and power source, then follow Samsung’s wireless-charging troubleshooting steps. A failed charge does not mean the S21 lacks wireless-charging capability.
What can—and cannot—be concluded
Samsung identifies third-party covers as one possible contributor to Galaxy wireless-charging trouble. However, the manufacturer guidance cited here does not verify every S21 OtterBox case-and-charger pairing, and it does not establish a failure rate or a measured charging-speed reduction for specific cases. Test your own combination rather than assuming that every OtterBox case works or that every one blocks charging.
