The WiebeTech RTX 220H-QR is a legacy two-bay enclosure for 3.5-inch SATA hard drives, with RAID 0 or RAID 1 and several older host connections. StorageReview’s review, published September 30, 2011, found higher throughput in RAID 0 than RAID 1 in its test setup, but those results are historical—not a prediction for a different system or drive set. The review calls the unit RTX 220-QR or RTX220-QR, names also used in BWI’s catalog, so searching for “RTX220-QR” may help locate the same enclosure.
What the RTX220-QR is—and what the review covers
StorageReview’s September 30, 2011 review describes a two-bay direct-attached storage enclosure built for two 3.5-inch SATA hard drives. The assigned name “RTX 220H-QR” differs from the names used in the review body, “RTX 220-QR” and “RTX220-QR”; BWI’s catalog also uses “RTX220-QR.” These names are useful when checking listings, but confirm the model marking on any unit before buying. StorageReview’s review is the source for the product description and historical testing.

The review lists an Oxford 936DS bridge/RAID chipset and the following host interfaces: eSATA, two FireWire 800 ports, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0. This interface mix is dated; a computer may lack the relevant port, or require an adapter. Neither current operating-system compatibility nor compatibility with particular modern adapters is established by the review.
RAID 0 or RAID 1: choose what matters more
| Mode | How it uses the two drives | Practical trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| RAID 0 | Stripes data across both drives. | Prioritizes throughput; it does not provide mirrored redundancy. A drive failure can put the array’s data at risk. |
| RAID 1 | Mirrors data across both drives. | Provides a copy on the second drive if one drive fails, but uses the pair for redundancy rather than combining their capacity. It is not a separate backup. |
Choose RAID 0 only if performance is the priority and you have another way to protect important data. RAID 1 may help keep data available after a single drive failure, but it cannot protect against deletion, theft, enclosure failure, or other events that affect both copies. Keep a separate backup whichever mode you use.

What StorageReview reported in its 2011 test
StorageReview tested the enclosure with two 2TB Hitachi 7K2000 7200RPM hard drives connected through an Intel 3.0Gb/s port. The reviewer reported these results:
| RAID mode | Read | Write |
|---|---|---|
| RAID 1 | 128.5 MB/s | 111.1 MB/s |
| RAID 0 | 239.3 MB/s | 207.9 MB/s |
These are StorageReview’s results for that drive pair and test connection, not present-day comparative benchmarks or guaranteed speeds. Performance can change with the drives, RAID mode, host interface, and computer. As review author Brian Beeler put it, “Performance levels of the RAID array depend entirely on the drives and interface being used.”
Design, handling and specifications
The review describes screw-less mounting trays, an LCD and front controls, shock-absorbing drive bays, an integrated handle, and a rear 6 cm magnetic-levitation-bearing fan. Its author praised the enclosure’s durability and serviceability, while also describing it as heavy. Those are the review’s design observations, not results from an independent impact or durability test.

BWI’s catalog identifies model 35220-2530-0100 as an RTX220-QR two-bay tray-free enclosure with RAID 0/1 and eSATA, FireWire, and USB 2 interfaces. Its enclosure listing and listed 2TB and 4TB configurations are shown as out of stock. That is the catalog’s displayed status, not proof that every seller or used marketplace has no stock. BWI’s catalog listing does not verify a particular seller’s inventory, unit condition, price, or included accessories.
Before purchasing a used unit, check:
- The label or model marking matches the RTX220-QR variant you intend to buy.
- Both bays, the front controls, and LCD operate as expected.
- The host interface you need is available on your computer, or that a suitable adapter works with your setup.
- The listing specifies which cables and drives are included, and the seller’s return terms.
- The exact enclosure and drive combination is compatible; the review does not establish a capacity ceiling or test modern replacement drives.
Current availability beyond BWI’s catalog, remaining warranty or support, and compatibility with current operating systems are not established by the cited sources.
