To turn on Wi-Fi Calling, open Settings > Cellular, choose the phone line if you use multiple SIMs, tap Wi-Fi Calling, and switch it on. Your carrier and country or region must support the feature; follow any prompts to confirm an emergency-services address.
What Wi-Fi Calling does—and what it requires
Wi-Fi Calling lets a supported iPhone make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi connection when cellular reception is weak. It is a carrier service, not a feature available with every carrier or in every country or region. Check your carrier’s current requirements if the option is missing or activation fails. Apple’s carrier directory covers the United States and Canada, so it should not be treated as a global availability list: Apple’s iPhone carrier-support directory.

Turn on Wi-Fi Calling
- Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi and open Settings > Cellular (called Mobile Data in some regions).
- If you have more than one SIM, tap the line you want to use.
- Tap Wi-Fi Calling and turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone. Wording and menu availability can vary by software version, carrier, and region.
- If prompted, enter or confirm the address used for emergency services, then complete any carrier prompts.
Apple’s instructions are available in Make calls using Wi-Fi on iPhone and Make a call with Wi-Fi Calling.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck whether Wi-Fi Calling is active
When the feature is available, Apple says the status bar shows “Wi-Fi” after your carrier name. You can also check the carrier indicator in Control Center. The indicator confirms Wi-Fi Calling availability; it does not guarantee that every Wi-Fi network will support a stable call.

Know the emergency-calling limits
When cellular service is available, iPhone routes emergency calls through cellular. If cellular service is unavailable and Wi-Fi Calling is enabled, an emergency call may instead go over Wi-Fi. Your device’s location information may be used to help emergency responders, and some carriers may use the address registered for Wi-Fi Calling as your location.
Apple warns that an iPhone may not receive emergency alerts while connected to Wi-Fi Calling. Emergency-call routing, address requirements, and alert behavior can vary by carrier and location, so check your carrier’s specific guidance rather than relying on Wi-Fi Calling as a substitute for ordinary emergency-service access.

- Confirm support and update iOS. Check that your carrier offers Wi-Fi Calling for your account and region, then install the latest available iOS update.
- Verify the correct line. Go to Settings > Cellular, select the intended SIM line if necessary, open Wi-Fi Calling, and confirm the setting is on.
- Restart your iPhone. After it starts, reconnect to Wi-Fi and check the setting and status indicator again.
- Try another Wi-Fi network. Some networks do not support Wi-Fi Calling reliably. Testing another network helps determine whether the original connection is the issue.
- Toggle Wi-Fi Calling. Turn it off, wait, then turn it back on and complete any prompts that reappear.
- Reset network settings only if needed. This is a later step because it clears saved network settings. On current iOS versions, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward and check with your carrier if activation still fails.

Use Wi-Fi Calling on other Apple devices
Some carriers let you make calls on other iCloud-connected Apple devices, such as an iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. This depends on carrier support. Apple says setup requires current software, the same Apple Account for iCloud and FaceTime, and the relevant calls-on-other-devices settings enabled. See Apple’s carrier-support directory and its Wi-Fi Calling instructions for availability and setup details.

Apple says a call may switch to carrier VoLTE if Wi-Fi disconnects, but only when VoLTE is available and turned on. The handoff is not guaranteed for every carrier or setup. For carrier-specific details, consult your carrier.
