“Zimbra Web Client” is the name of the browser-based interface for Zimbra Collaboration, not another name for the mail server. The phrase “half a million times” is not verified by the official sources cited here: they do not give a dated search-volume or result-count figure, or explain how one was measured.
What is the Zimbra Web Client?
It is the browser interface people use to access Zimbra Collaboration features. Zimbra’s administrator guide describes the product architecture as a combination of client interfaces and server components. The web client gives users access to functions such as email, calendars, address books and tasks; it is not the whole server-side system. Zimbra’s documentation index organizes Web Client material separately from administrator documentation.

The web client is also more than a page for reading mail. Zimbra’s Web Client help describes email, contacts, appointments and calendars, tasks, preferences, and search across messages and collaboration data. Which features a person can use depends on the account and deployment.

Why does the phrase appear so often?
The term names a visible, separately documented part of the product. It has user guides, interface modes, source code and deployment considerations of its own. Zimbra’s zm-web-client repository identifies the codebase as standard and advanced client software for Zimbra Collaboration Suite FOSS Edition.

That visibility can explain why the phrase recurs in documentation and support material. It does not establish that it appears exactly half a million times in search results, on websites, or in any other measured collection. The cited official documentation does not publish that count, its date, or its counting method, so the number should be treated as an unverified premise rather than a statistic.
Is Zimbra Web Client a mail server?
No. The web client is the user-facing interface; mail-server and mailbox services are server-side roles. They may run on the same machine or be separated across a deployment. Zimbra’s administrator guide describes both single-node and multi-server configurations.

The guide characterizes the split option this way: “The Web Application Server Split functionality provides an option to separate the mailstore services (mail server) and the user interface services (web client server).” In the described arrangement, a web client server serves interface content while a mail server handles service requests. The split is an option, not a requirement.

| Arrangement | What it means | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Single node | Core services are deployed on one server. | Zimbra’s administrator guide describes a single-node configuration. |
| Multiple servers | Services are distributed across more than one server. | The guide describes multi-server deployments. |
| Web application server split | User-interface services run separately from mailstore services. | The guide presents this as an option; its split description assigns interface content and web applications to the web client server and service requests to the mail server. |
Zimbra’s split-mode technical article also discusses request routing through a proxy. Its detailed setup guidance is version-era documentation, however, and should not be assumed to apply unchanged to every current release. Check the documentation for the specific Zimbra version before planning or changing a deployment.

Zimbra’s Web Client help describes two modes, but the available choice depends on the account and installation. Its descriptions distinguish them as follows:
Rank #4
- The outside is made with holographic glitter material, which changes color depending on the viewing angle. The clear coating makes it smooth so the color doesn’t rub off. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
- The interior is made with complimentary colored vegan leather PU, which makes the wallet more flexible and beautiful.
- Small in size (4.7” X 7.5”), it will hold a regular guest check book (which is not included), and can be put into an apron pocket.
- The wallet has 7 pockets and compartments, which can accommodate cash, business cards, credit cards, receipts, etc. to help the server be organized. It also has a pen/pencil holder and can be used as a personal organizer for travel, school, or daily work.
- Perfect for Waitstaff: Ideal for using at restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. Great for waitstaff, servers, and bartenders
| Mode | Documented characteristics | Best fit described by Zimbra |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced | Offers the full set of web collaboration features. | Current browsers and faster connections. |
| Standard | HTML-based. | Slower connections, older browsers or easier accessibility. |
These are descriptions in Zimbra’s help, not a guarantee that every deployment exposes both modes or that every feature is available in every account. Confirm the options shown by the particular installation before following mode-specific instructions.
What the “half a million” claim does—and does not—tell you
A number without a defined source and method cannot show what was counted. “Half a million” might refer to search results, indexed pages, mentions, or something else, but the official Zimbra material cited here does not identify which. It also does not state when such a count was taken. The defensible conclusion is narrower: “Zimbra Web Client” is an established product term in Zimbra’s documentation, while the half-million figure remains unsubstantiated by those sources.
