1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf your TV or connected device is playing but your soundbar is silent, start with power, playback, mute, volume, and the soundbar’s selected input. Then check that the TV is sending audio through the connection you use—HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, or Bluetooth. Work through one connection at a time so you can identify whether the problem is a setting, cable, source, TV port, or soundbar.
Why is my soundbar not making any sound?
Silence can come from a paused source, muted or low volume, the wrong soundbar input, or the TV sending audio somewhere other than the soundbar. A loose or faulty cable, an incompatible ARC/eARC connection, or a source-device problem can also interrupt audio. The checks below follow the signal path from the source to the speakers.

Check power, playback, volume, and input
- Make sure everything is on. Confirm the TV or source device and soundbar are powered on.
- Play something audible. Check that a movie, show, or other source is actively playing and not paused.
- Check mute and volume. Check the TV, soundbar, and any set-top box or streaming device. Raise the volume on each enough to rule out a low setting.
- Select the soundbar input that matches the connection. Use the soundbar’s source or function control to choose HDMI ARC/TV, optical/D-IN, Bluetooth, or the relevant input. Allow a few seconds after switching; Samsung notes that audio can take 4–5 seconds to appear on its models. Samsung’s soundbar troubleshooting guide lists the correct source and cable connection among its initial checks.
Set the TV’s sound output to the soundbar
If the TV’s own speakers work but the soundbar does not, open the TV’s sound or speaker settings and choose the output that matches the physical connection: HDMI ARC/eARC, optical/digital audio, or Bluetooth. Menu labels and paths vary by model, so consult the TV manual if the names below do not match your screen.
- Samsung’s guidance refers to Speaker Select or Speaker Settings.
- LG’s guidance says to choose Optical Digital or HDMI for wired speakers, and Bluetooth for wireless speakers. See LG’s external audio equipment troubleshooting guide.
Check the connection you use
HDMI ARC or eARC
- Connect the cable to the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC and the corresponding ARC/TV port on the soundbar. A regular HDMI port may not provide the audio return connection.
- In the TV settings, enable ARC and HDMI-CEC if required. Samsung calls its CEC feature Anynet+. The exact labels depend on the TV.
- Select the soundbar’s TV/ARC or corresponding D-IN source as specified by its manual, then reseat the cable at both ends.
- If the TV does not detect the soundbar, try another known-good HDMI cable. ARC/eARC also requires compatible features on both devices. Sony’s ARC/eARC troubleshooting guidance says the feature cannot be activated when only one device supports it; optical or another audio connection may be an alternative.
Optical audio
- Check that the cable is firmly connected to the TV’s digital audio output and the soundbar’s optical input.
- Set the TV’s sound output to Optical Digital or Digital Audio Out, and select Optical or D-IN on the soundbar.
- If the connection still fails, reseat the cable or try another known-good optical cable.
Bluetooth or another wireless connection
- Set the TV or source device to send audio to the soundbar over the wireless connection it supports, and select the corresponding input on the soundbar.
- Confirm the devices are paired and connected. If the TV does not list the soundbar, restart pairing using the instructions for those specific models. Pairing steps and wireless compatibility vary.
A source connected directly to the soundbar
If a set-top box, game console, or another device is plugged into the soundbar, check that the source is on and playing, and choose the soundbar input that matches the cable. Reseat the cable. If possible, connect another device to the same soundbar port to see whether it produces audio.

- HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.
Isolate the TV, source, cable, or soundbar
- Test the TV or source without the soundbar. Disconnect the soundbar and try the same content through the TV speakers. If the TV is also silent, investigate the TV or source before the soundbar.
- Try another source on the soundbar. Connect a different device using the same soundbar input and cable. If it works, the original source, TV settings, or TV connection may be the cause.
- Swap only the suspect cable or port. If another source also fails, try a known-good cable or another supported input. This helps distinguish a cable or port fault from a soundbar fault; buying a cable is useful only if the existing one is suspect or a swap identifies it.
- For ARC, test with another ARC-capable TV if one is available. Samsung recommends this as a way to help distinguish a TV-side issue from a soundbar issue.
Keep the connection path and changed setting in mind as you test; changing one item at a time makes the result easier to interpret. Audio-format support can differ between the TV, source, and soundbar, so check the manuals for the devices involved rather than applying a universal format setting such as PCM or passthrough.

Contact the soundbar manufacturer’s support or service route if the bar remains silent after the connection, settings, cable, and source checks—especially if it fails with more than one source or device. Use the exact model manual for any reset procedure or button combination; reset steps are not universal.
