What can cause fast battery drain?
Battery use depends on how the phone is set up and used. Xiaomi identifies several possible contributors: apps running in the background, high screen brightness or refresh rate, Sunlight mode, haptic feedback, Always-on display, and other screen features. Xiaomi’s guidance also notes that having too many background apps can drain a phone quickly (Xiaomi Global Support).

Those are possible causes, not a diagnosis of your particular phone. Check the usage breakdown before changing settings so you can focus on the largest drains rather than turning off features indiscriminately.

How to troubleshoot the drain

Find the apps using the most power
Open Settings > Battery and review the app-level power usage. Xiaomi UK recommends using per-app usage to identify power-hungry apps (Xiaomi UK Support). Menu wording can vary with software version and region.

Limit unnecessary background activity
Close or restrict background activity for apps you do not need running. Avoid disabling essential messaging, accessibility, or safety functions just to reduce usage; doing so can interfere with notifications or other functions you rely on.

Test display and convenience settings
Lower screen brightness and, if your installed software offers the option, try a lower refresh rate. Turn off Sunlight mode, Always-on display, or haptics only if you do not need them. Change one setting at a time and observe the result so you can tell which change matters.

Use Battery saver and update software
Enable Battery saver as a temporary way to reduce power use, and check for available system and app updates. Xiaomi also suggests checking additional battery options and using Ultra battery saver when appropriate. Battery-saving modes can limit background activity or features, so treat them as a trade-off rather than a substitute for identifying the cause.

Compare under similar conditions
After each change, compare battery use over a day or two with similar screen time, connectivity, and app use. A different pattern of use makes it difficult to judge whether a setting helped.

Could setup or an update explain a temporary increase?
After initial setup or a system update, background synchronization and compilation can temporarily increase power use and heat. Xiaomi UK says new-device background work may last a few days and update compilation about one to two days. Those are general Xiaomi guidance, not a guaranteed timetable for the REDMI Note 17 4G. If the drain remains severe beyond that period, or did not begin around setup or an update, continue troubleshooting rather than assuming this explains it.

Xiaomi says discharge can be slightly faster when the battery is at a very low charge level. Its suggestions for that situation are to enable Battery saver, reduce brightness, and close unused apps (Xiaomi Global Support). This describes low-charge behavior; it does not account for every report of rapid drain.

When should you contact Xiaomi?
If severe drain continues during ordinary use after you have checked app usage, adjusted likely settings, and allowed any setup or update activity to settle, seek inspection from a local Xiaomi after-sales service channel. Xiaomi’s support guidance recommends local after-sales inspection for persistent abnormal power consumption. Do not assume the battery is replaceable by the user or attempt an unsupported repair.

How to interpret advertised battery-life figures
A retailer product listing for the REDMI Note 17 4G describes a 7,700 mAh battery and 45 W charging, and claims more than two days of use, about 2.62 days under stated test conditions, and up to 26 hours of video playback (Mi-Store.si product listing). These are seller or manufacturer claims under test conditions, not independent measurements of typical real-world endurance. They should not be treated as a guaranteed runtime for your usage.
